University of Rochester is a decent university with a variety of opportunities if you choose to seek them out. Resources exist, but finding them can be difficult because of how many there are. If there's a will there's a way here. Many students are driven to do well, and courses can be rigorous, but you can acquire a great amount of knowledge if you immerse yourself. Food is decent, you get used to it, but make sure to look at what you eat. Safety is alright, public safety cars patrol often. Party scene is decent, if you choose to participate in it. If not, you will find your friends that like to stay in.

Very good school, the food's subpar but the academic side of the school is amazing! Great professors and faculty with a lot of opportunities.

Parent here of a sophom*ore. The school has exceptional academics and beautiful riverside campus. We were especially impressed with the admissions process as the personalized outreach. For example, the acceptance letter was included comments on my student’s essay and other application details. All other school’s sent a generic form letter. There are a few recent, negative reviews that present a false impression of the administration. The student body is diverse and that includes a very vocal and disruptive element on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Unlike various Ivy League and other universities who are taking a meek approach to protecting all students and balancing rights, UofR has actually instituted policies that achieve a fair balance between First Amendment principles and protection against hateful, violence-inciting speech. Unfortunately, this has made discontent those who think they have unfettered rights to hate and disrupt.
