Universal Credit will only discuss your claim with someone else if you have given permission to do so. Sometimes certain information can be shared about you without your permission.

Social landlords
If your landlord is the Northern Ireland Housing Executive or a housing association, you are a ‘social sector’ tenant.
To helppay housing costs to your landlord, Universal Credit can share the following information with them without your permission.
- The date your Universal Credit housing-cost payments to your landlord or your third-party deduction will start
- When they can expect to receive the first payment
- The amount of your Universal Credit housing-cost payment towards rent
- If there have been any changes to the amount of housing payment
Court orders
If a court order is in place, your permission is not needed to give the information asked for under that court order.
MPs and MLAs
When your MP or MLA asks for information about your claim on your behalf, your permission is not needed to provide the information.
Public interest
If it is in the best interests of the public, some information can be given without your permission (for example, about someone who has complex needs). These requests for information usually come from the police or social services.
