It looks like Erik ten Hag is about to complete his eighth signing for Manchester United as Burnley FC striker Wout Weghorst has reportedly agreed terms to join on loan until the end of the season.

The Dutchman was already loaned out to Turkish side Beşiktaş after joining the Lancashire club back in January 2022, scoring just two goals and three assists in 20 appearances for the Clarets.

Nevertheless, since flying east following Burnley’s relegation back to the Championship in his debut season, Weghorst has grabbed eight goals and four assists in 16 games and also bagged an important brace to take the Netherlands to penalties in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals.

Enjoying a much improved season on loan and following his late heroics in Qatar, the six-foot-six forward’s stock has risen and given the obvious Dutch connection, clearly caught ten Hag’s eye. As always, leading transfer source Fabrizio Romano was one of the first to break the news.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils have secured the former Bundesliga and Burnley striker’s services after paying a £2.5 million termination fee to release him from his existing loan contract with Beşiktaş.

Said to be flying to Manchester today, though unlikely, the question is now whether he will be registered in time for the Manchester derby.

United kicked off the January transfer window by replacing their back-up for David de Gea after Slovakian Martin Dúbravka was recalled by his parent club, Newcastle United, bringing in former Stoke and Palace Jack Butland instead – also on loan until the end of the season.

More pressingly, ten Hag’s team were obviously made one lighter in attacking areas in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s very public fallout and departure from Old Trafford, so an offensive signing will no doubt come as good news to most Reds.

On the other hand, many have questioned whether signing another striker on the wrong side of 30, not to mention having struggled to prove himself in the Premier League, is the right move in the market.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of Twitter rage about Wout Weghorst, but I think it's a sensible loan addition & gives #MUFC something different without compromising philosophy. He kept some good players out of the Netherlands World Cup squad. Not an exciting move but understandable. pic.twitter.com/cwjYePDC6G

One thing I would say about Weghorst is if Ten Hag wants him, then I trust him.

He's earned that trust with the signings he's made, the change in mentality he's created, the momentum he's built at United. Weghorst seems to fit the profile of character Ten Hag wants at United. pic.twitter.com/pmS33BZcNk

Speaking to BBC Sport, former first-team coach and scout René Meulensteen said of Weghorst: “He is different, that is why Erik ten Hag is bringing him in.”

He offers something else that the other Manchester United forwards don’t have – but I don’t think he will be a starter every game”, according to Meulensteen, adding that believes “ten Hag knows what he is doing, for sure”.

While Weghorst will clearly be a short-term stop-gap who will be utilised as a more old-school, big centre-forward, United will obviously be looking to bring in further names in attacking positions as well as the other areas that suit the bigger picture.

However, former right-back Gary Neville believes that ten Hag’s apparent new salary cap could jeopardise the club’s chances when it comes to going after their primary targets.

What do you reckon, firm or foolish? 🤔https://t.co/Ziq50bODN1

Should the deal cross the line, will Weghorst end up being a revelatory signing for United, a flat-track bully, or just a flop altogether?

People are labelling the price of the new England kits an ‘absolute joke’Danny JonesUnited reach agreement to sign Wout Weghorst on loan (4)

The new England home and away kits have finally dropped ahead of Euro 2024 and although they’ve gone down as ‘instant classics’ amongst many fans, the one thing people can’t stop talking about is the price.

As mentioned, most England supporters and kit enthusiasts seem to be pretty happy with the two new designs — the home kit featuring a new thick dark blue collar and trims, as well as an eye-catching purple, textured look for the away kit — the story seems to be the same as last time around.

They’re just too bloody expensive.

Don’t just take our word for it; you only need to hop on social media to see the countless people complaining that what is essentially a templated Nike jersey being minorly tweaked across many different national teams is simply not worth how much you’ll have to fork out.

Went to order my daughter the new England kit, with @bmeado9 on the back. @nikefootball that pricing is an absolute disgrace.

£122.98 for a kids kit – and that doesn’t even include socks

For that cost, she should be getting tickets to a game and the opportunity to be a mascot. pic.twitter.com/9swxkxJXx5

That England away kit is something else.

The price is certainly not.

If someone can spare me £125 you’ll make me a very happy man. pic.twitter.com/FGiYd2lCm5

I pity the parents of footy obsessed kids for whom these kits are simply a straight 'no'. Cost of living crisis… but not at footballs top table, eh.

— Tim (@mrcuthers) March 18, 2024

Yes, that’s right, a replica England shirt will set you back £84.99 and the authentic ‘Dri-FIT Adv’ versions that the players wear are being sold at a whopping £124.99. Crikey.

As for children’s sizes, a home or away shirt will still cost £64.99; mini-kits for toddlers and younger are still £54.99 and even just a pair of kid’s shorts are £32.99.

Several commenters quipped along the lines of, “the people’s game” and, “You can get twelve loaves of bread at Waitrose for the money these shirts cost!”, others were much more upset in their reaction.

Another wrote: “The price of these kits is a disgrace. With a cost of living crisis currently going on. How do we find £85 for a replica? They should be lowered in a gesture of goodwill to your loyal support.”

Once again, there seem to be few moans about the new kits themselves but there seems to be an almost universal cry of ‘what a rip-off!’ from England supporters.

Moreover, many online are already calling for Three Lions fans to boycott Nike over their “outrageous” price point — and not just when it comes to these kits but club jerseys in general of the past few years too.

Are you willing to pay this much for an England shirt and, if not, what price do you think they should be sold for?

Man United starlet Kobbie Mainoo earns first senior England call-up following ‘immense’ derby day performanceDanny JonesUnited reach agreement to sign Wout Weghorst on loan (8)

Rising Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has received his first senior call-up to the England squad following his outstanding breakthrough season and what many hailed as an incredible performance in the derby against Liverpool.

The Stockport-born midfielder has been one of Man United’s brightest sparks this season, looking like an extremely talented player with maturity and intelligence beyond his years on numerous occasions, as well as scoring an impressive winning goal in their 4-3 away against Wolves earlier in the year.

Mainoo also played a key role in the Red Devils‘ latest win by the same scoreline over their historic rivals, with Erik ten Hag’s side delivering a vintage FA Cup fixture to progress to the semi-finals following a dramatic 120 minutes at Old Trafford.

With the youngster’s showing in the first half in particular described as “immense” by the likes of Ian Wright and other pundits — many of whom had already agreed he “has to be in the next England squad” — they’ve now got their wish.

An addition to the #ThreeLions squad… 🤩

Congratulations to Kobbie Mainoo, who has received his first senior international call-up! 👏

— England (@England) March 19, 2024

Still only 18, he joins the likes of Theo Walcott, Wayne Rooney and his new international teammate Jude Bellingham as amongst some of the youngest players to ever be called up for the national squad, with the Real Madrid star now looking like he might play in a midfield three alongside Rice and Mainoo.

Reacting to the news on his Instagram, Mainoo simply wrote, “It’s an honour to receive my first senior call-up”, with countless fellow pros, pundits and fans congratulating him on the achievement.

As for his club, United kept things even shorter by adding, “So, so deserved” and Red or not, we’d guess there can’t be too many supporters that aren’t excited to see him in an England shirt — we certainly are.

The bump up to the big leagues also comes just four days after he was initially named in the Three Lions’ U21s squad prior to his derby day display. Safe to say it’s been a whirlwind few days for the local lad.

With England’s kits for the Euros this summer having just been dropped too, we’re starting to get very excited now. It’s coming home.

What do we make of them then, Mancs? 👕

Three Lions are gonna be looking sharp for #EURO2024 😍 https://t.co/L23DvqSusy
