Fall’s gorgeous colors are reason enough to decorate your home this season, inside and out!

I hope these simple and affordable ideas for creating that cozy autumn feeling help you get your home decorated in a way you love this fall!

When should you decorate for fall?

I always say you should decorate your home in a way you love, so as soon as it feels appropriate to you to put out your cute fall decorations, then do it!

That being said, I’d recommend waiting until at least September 1st. It might be odd if you started putting them out in July… 😉

Personally, there are many years I wait until after October 1st because our weather doesn’t start changing until then and I prefer to go along with the weather.

How do you decorate for Autumn on a budget?

Use natural elements.

Pumpkins, leaves, acorns, branches, greenery and other seasonal materials are perfect for autumn decor and will make your home feel warm and cozy.

Grow you own pumpkins, pick up acorns or leaves off the ground, or cut a branch off of your favorite tree when the leaves start changing color!

Or, if you prefer faux stems like me, grab one of these affordable options:

Reuse what you already have.

Even if you don’t plan on getting crafty you might want to take a look at all the fall-themed items you already have.

They can be used to create fresh new centerpieces, mantle decor, porch decor, and much more!

Maybe you have some table linens in a warm color like orange, yellow or red? Or You can pull out an orange vase like I did on my mantel!

One of my favorite ways to decorate for any season is to shop my own home. 🙂

Be thrifty.

Before you buy retail, be sure to check your local thrift stores and the online marketplaces for some super cheap fall decor.

My only suggestion is to make sure what you’re buying is high-quality.

No use buying something, even if it’s cheap, if it won’t last you for years!

Shop affordably.

Here are my favorite places to look for affordable, cute fall decorations!

I’ve even put together a list of my favorite Amazon fall decor for under $50! Click here to check it out.

Tackle one space at a time.

Don’t try and overhaul your entire home’s decor all at once.

Select one room you’re going to decorate and start there. Get it how you want, then move onto another room.

I’ll be honest, I only put seasonal decor in my main living space – so the living room, dining room and kitchen.

Our bathrooms and bedrooms don’t get decorated for the seasons for two reasons: way too much work and cost!

But, if you like the idea of adding fall decor to your entire home, do it in stages.

Store your cute fall decorations and reuse them every year.

The key to decorating for fall on a budget is NOT buying new decor every year.

It’s buying one or two things each year and building up a stash of nice, high-quality fall decor that you can reuse over and over!

Even if you don’t have a lot of storage space, decor can easily be stored in a labeled, industrial-style tote and placed in a garage or attic.

These are my favorite totes for storing decor.
