U.S.-ARUBA RELATIONS
Aruba is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Kingdom of the Netherlands is responsible for the conduct of foreign affairs, including with the United States, and its embassies and consulates issue visas for travel to the island, although visas are not required for U.S. citizen tourists.
Tourism is the mainstay of Aruba’s economy. Approximately two million tourists per year visit Aruba, nearly 80 percent of those coming from the United States. In 2020, United States exported $342M to Aruba. The main products that United States exported to Aruba are refined petroleum ($42.3M), other edible preparations ($11.6M), and broadcasting equipment ($9.66M). During the last 25 years U.S. exports to Aruba increased at an annualized rate of 1.6%, from $230M in 1995 to $342M in 2020. In 2020, Aruba exported $6.28M to the United States. Principal exports included soap ($1.84M), beauty products ($990k), and precious metal scraps ($601k). During the last 25 years Aruba’s exports to the United States decreased at an annualized rate of 15.2%, from $392M in 1995 to $6.28M in 2020.
The U.S. Consulate General in Curacao is responsible for the day-to-day management of relations with the Dutch Caribbean, which includes Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten. The consulate provides a variety of services to U.S. citizens; it also issues non-immigrant visas for travelers to the U.S. who wish to visit, work, or study for a temporary period.
