Castle Hill remains Townsville’s only million-dollar suburb.
Strong growth in the Townsville property markets has seen median prices surge in the past 12 months but Castle Hill holds on to its crown as the most expensive place to buy.
According to the latest REA Market Trends report, the median price for a Castle Hill house sits at $1.22 million, making it the only suburb in the region in the million-dollar club.
House prices in Castle Hill surged 16.7 per cent year-on-year to January and 43.5 per cent in the past three years.
The home at 6 Roper Court, Castle Hill, is listed for sale for offers over $2 million.
Janice Gallagher, of Janice Gallagher Real Estate, said it was likely Castle Hill would always top Townsville’s most expensive suburbs list.
“The position sells itself,” she said.
“It has fantastic views and people love views.”

Coming in at second place was North Ward with a median house price of $855,000, up 5.6 per cent in 12 months, followed by Alice River, up 7.4 per cent to $650,000, Belgian Gardens up 22.6 per cent to $650,000, and Rangewood, up 5.3 per cent to $600,000.
The property at 48 Yarrawonga Drive, Castle Hill, is listed for sale for $3.5 million.
Ms Gallagher said though Rowes Bay didn’t make the list, as there weren’t enough sales in the tightly held pocket to generate a median price, it was up there with Townsville’s other prestige suburbs.
“You’ve just got to look at the fact that Johnathan Thurston paid $4.5 million for a house there 15 months ago and he sold his other Rowes Bay house (for $1.92 million),” she said.
“It’s got a great lifestyle that people love.”
This four-bedroom home at 48 Palm Street, Rowes Bay, is for sale via expressions of interest.
Ms Gallagher said the Townsville property market had started 2023 in a good position.
“It has been steady and there are more buyers than listings,” she said.
“Last year was a good year and I think it will be a good year, more of the same.
“There are a lot of new buyers in town.
“People who have come to town and rented really want to get along with it now and get settled.
“Over the Christmas period, things do quieten off but schools are back now and it’s picking again.”
