TipRanks Identifies the Top Analysts in the World in 2021 - TipRanks.com (2024)

TipRanks, the world’s leading analyst ranking service, has identified the top 25 best performing analysts covering the U.S., UK, and Canadian markets in 2021.

These top analysts significantly outperformed their counterparts. We analyzed 180,421 ratings in 2021. The average analyst got it right just 51.01% of the time and made an average return of 0.38% on their stock recommendations measured over 3 months. Meanwhile, the top 25 analysts tracked over the same time frame racked up an 80.3% average success rate and a 13.16% average return.

We ranked analysts according to three different criteria to measure their 2021 performance – their success rate, in other words, the number of times a rating proved accurate after three months, their average returns per recommendation over a three-month time period, and the number of ratings they made. Analysts who give more ratings are more likely to rank higher.

Winning Sectors of 2021

While in recent years the Technology sector dominated the U.S list, in 2021 there was a significant shift. Three out of the top five U.S. analysts cover the Basic Materials sector, with eight in total making the list. However, in terms of numbers, they are beaten by the Financial sector which has 12 analysts in the top 25. Four analysts covering the Technology sector also appear.

Meanwhile, in Canada, analysts covering the Energy sector dominated, followed by the Financial sector. All top 5 analysts on the list cover Energy stocks. There are a total of 16 Energy and 8 Financial specialists on the list, with one analyst who covers Consumer Goods.

There is significantly more diversity when it comes to sectors on the UK list. Analysts covering the Financial, Basic Materials, Consumer Services, Technology, Healthcare, Energy, Industrial Goods, and Utilities sectors all appear on the list.

Most Represented Firms

With 11 analysts in total making the top 25 lists in all three markets, global investment bank, RBC Capital, is the firm with the most representation. Cannacord Genuity is next, with six analysts making the list, four covering Canadian markets and two the UK. They are followed by Jefferies which had five top analysts in 2021, all of whom cover the U.S. markets, and HSBC, which has five top analysts in the UK list.

Top Female Analysts

For the second year in a row, this notoriously predominantly male industry saw a woman place no. 1 in the UK, with Canaccord’s Portia Patel dominating the list. The UK also has the greatest number of women on the list, with four out of 25 top analysts being female. In comparison, the U.S. and Canada each have one female on the list. TipRanks added UK coverage in 2020 and this is the second year it has published the top analysts covering UK markets.

Awards Ceremony

For the first time, TipRanks will host an online Awards Ceremony. Some of the world’s top analysts of 2021 will attend, and the ceremony will be streamed to a live audience. Please feel welcome to join us!

TipRanks’ CEO, Uri Gruenbaum, commented, “While we are not an analyst endorsem*nt platform, we are always excited to see those who generate excess returns and are keen to highlight their success. One of the ways we level the playing field for individual investors is by making available the performance track records of analysts to individual investors, who can then follow the experts of their choice. I am extremely excited that for the first time we are going to hold an Awards Ceremony to acknowledge the very best analysts out there.”
