Three Reasons To Get Travel Insurance On Your Next Trip and Cruise (1)

After our trip to Turks & Caicos we all caught the travel bug and we can’t wait to go on our next travel adventure!

We dream and research where we want to go and how we are going to get there. There is so much that goes into planning a vacation than just picking where to go… but all the planning pays off in the end! About a month before we left for Turks & Caicos I realized I hadn’t purchased travel insurance. It had been so long since we took a big vacation that I completely forgot how important it is to have.

When I finally sat down to buy travel insurance I was kind of at a loss with who to purchase it through. There were so many choices and none of them were names I knew. Nationwide recently began offering leisure travel insurance, and while I haven’t used it yet, next time I’m going to remember to purchase ourTravel Insurance from Nationwidebecause they are well known in the insurance world.

We purchase travel insurance to protect our investment into the trip and also for practical reasons like being able to have certain expenses covered, such as medical care and emergency flights home if needed. It’s something I won’t travel without, especially when we go out of the country.

Nationwide Travel insurance has many plans to offer, including policies to protect your leisure travel investments in a number of ways – whether one big trip a year (single trip plans) or many (annual multi-trip plans) and even 3 new specific plans just for cruises. If you are planning more than one trip this year I highly recommend looking into the annual multi-plan policies. Not only can you save money, but also you can save time plus have the security of knowing you are covered for a variety of common losses… and you only have to purchase the policy once a year.

For those taking just one trip a year, the single trip policies provide coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, lost luggage and more for that one big trip. Having lost most of my luggage years ago I cannot tell you how great it would be to have this coverage!

Annual/Multi-Trip plans are available for frequent travelers that prefer coverage for all of the trips they take in a year. We are looking into a multi-trip policy this year since we have a few trips already booked with more being planned.

What I am most excited about is that Nationwide is expanding their product portfolio to include leisure travel as something important to protect with a new cruise protection plan. They are also one of the only larger personal lines / auto insurers to offer this product.

As we flew over the Bahamas to Turks & Caicos we all knew our next big trip was going to be a cruise to as many islands as possible. Knowing that I can getCruise Insurance from Nationwidenow makes this an even more carefree vacation. I can’t wait to get back to these white sandy beaches!

There are many reasons to get cruise insurance but these are the most important ones to me:

1. Emergencies happen back at home and on your vacation. Being able to return home early is a big deal.If eligibility requirements are met, you can be reimbursed transportation costs, up to $1000 per person to return home, if you elect to abandon your cruise and return home early with the Interruption For Any Reason- Return Transport benefit.

2.I’m a germ and illness worrier. If there was a CDC warning issued about a port of call we were visiting I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the vacation because I would be worried the whole time.Having the ability to have up to 100% of non-refundable trip costs covered if you cancel your cruise because a CDC warning is issued for a port of call on your itinerary is available on the most comprehensive cruise plan as long as you cancel at least two days before departure.

3. Weather and other issues come up all the time and can cause a port change. Sometimes you book a specific cruise for a specific port so having port of call change benefits are awesome.Itinerary Change coverage provides a one-time benefit of up to $1250 per person, for the inconvenience of an itinerary change by the cruise line prior to departure (although you must still go on the cruise for this benefit).

A couple things to remember: Travel insurance plans from Nationwide are only available to U.S. residents. Nationwide’s single-trip policies, including the cruise insurance plans, are available in all 50 states and D.C. The annual/multi-trip plans, however, are not available in FL, NH, NY, OR and WA. Not all plan benefits are available in all states. Specific benefit amounts vary by plan and certain restrictions may apply; please check the plan coverage details before purchasing.
