TheNorth Face is committed to improving animal welfare and traceability inthe goose down and feather supply chain. We created theResponsible Down Standard (RDS)tohelp to ensure that our down does not come from animals that have beensubject to any unnecessary harm, such as force-feeding or live-plucking,and to provide a traceability system to validate the original source ofdown used in The North Face products.
We started usingRDS-certified down in our products in Fall 2015 and since Fall 2016 wehave only purchased RDS-certified down. All of our down products arecertified to the RDS.

Usingonly the highest qualitygoose down in all of our products, The NorthFace® tests each lot of down at three stages of production forloftiness, moisture resistance and ability to regain loft aftercompression.
The fill power of goose down is an indicator of twoimportant features: warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility, bothcritical to retain warmth and furnish comfort. True fill power ismeasured by placing one ounce of goose down in a graduated cylinder andmeasuring the volume the down occupies in cubic inches. The North Face®products are insulated with exclusive, high-fill power goose downranging from 550 to 900 fill, which represents the highest quality downcommercially available.
