What is the Coca-Cola system? ›

The Coca‑Cola Company and its bottling partners are collectively known as the Coca‑Cola system. The Coca‑Cola Company does not own, manage or control most local bottling companies.

Though New co*ke was accepted by many Coca-Cola drinkers, many more resented the change, as had happened in the focus groups. Many critics were from the southern US states, some of whom considered Coca-Cola part of their regional identity.

How did Coca-Cola change? ›

In 1985, in an effort to compete with Pepsi, the company decided to change the formula for co*ke for the first time in 99 years. The new drink was called "New co*ke." The reaction to the new flavor was overwhelmingly negative, and Coca-Cola went back to the original recipe in just 79 days.

That changed, of course, in the summer of 1985 as the consumer outcry over "new co*ke" was replaced by consumer affection for Coca‑Cola classic. The fabled secret formula for Coca‑Cola was changed, adopting a formula preferred in taste tests of nearly 200,000 consumers.

Packaging. Packaging used in Coca-Cola's products has a significant environmental impact. The company is the single largest plastic polluter in the world, producing over 3 million tonnes of plastic packaging each year.
