The Best Bogota Airbnb: 12 Truly Unique Places To Stay (2024)

Bogota is an incredible city, but so vast that it can get overwhelming. Add to that the fact that it’s located at 2644 meters above sea level (that’s 8675 feet!) in the Andes, being the third-highest capital city in the world, and you will quickly realize it’s breathtaking – quite literally. The Colombian capital has loads to offer in terms of attractions and things to do, but picking a good place to stay – both in terms of location and actual services – is key to actually enjoy the city.

The good news is that there is a good range of accommodation options in the city – in fact, so many that picking where to stay can be quite a daunting task. A Bogota Airbnb may well be the perfect solution.

If you know where to look, you can score a place that is comfortable, full of character, cheaper than most hotels and great value for money (you can have an entire apartment to yourself!) and safe, which is quite important in a city where safety has been a concern in the past, though thankfully not as much now.

What’s more, your Airbnb host will be a great source of reliable, local information, sharing tips on lesser known places to visit (because trust me, there is much more to see in Bogota than the gorgeous Candelaria), restaurants and more.

Have I convinced you? Great! Are you unsure where to start your search? Don’t worry! In this post, I will help help you find a perfect Airbnb in Bogota! Let me start by giving a brief outline of the best neighborhoods in the city, and by then selecting the best Bogota Airbnb.

A Quick Introduction To Bogota’s Best Areas To Stay

Bogota is a sprawling city made up of numerous different neighborhoods, each of them with their own individual characteristic. Some of them are even named for their most famous attributes. I’ve selected the best of these countless districts to give you a good idea of where to look for the best Airbnb in Bogota for you.

ZONA ROSA – This T-shaped neighborhood is the city’s most fashionable. Set in Bogota’s north, Zona Rosa is criss-crossed with cobblestoned pedestrianized streets making it easy to explore. Here’s where you’ll find the best nightlife spots, some fantastic upscale restaurants, and arguably the city’s best shopping opportunities. Think expensive co*cktails and the latest works from Colombian fashion designers. Want to dance the night away? Try La Villa and Maroma Nightclub Bogota. But for something more casual, The Pub is fun for a drink or two.

LA CANDELARIA – For most visitors to Bogota, La Candelaria, Bogota’s 17th century historic center, is where they’ll head first. This is the old colonial heart of the Colombian capital, spotted with historic landmarks and restored Spanish colonial architecture. A handful of universities also call this area home, giving the neighborhood a youthful yet intellectual atmosphere. Its cobblestoned streets, cafes, galleries and museums make it a charming, interesting place to explore.

USAQUEN – Similarly to La Candelaria, Usaquen is a picturesque part of the city, but with a twist. As well as its attractive historic architecture and colonial-style church, there’s a whole host of trendy eateries throughout, including French bistros and Asian fusion joints. Combined with its village-esque atmosphere, many food stalls and Sunday flea market, it’s a good budget option for foodies and those looking for a more local place to stay in Bogota.

CHAPINERO – Chapinero is an upmarket mountainside neighborhood that makes up for its out-of-centre location with gleaming malls, great shopping, and pretty residential streets. Situated within this affluent barrio is Zona G, the so-called “Gourmet District.” There’s a good reason for the name, since these few blocks are strewn with an array of fine dining and cutting-edge eateries. As well as its gastronomic scene, Chapinero is well known for its LGBTQ+ scene, with numerous bars and nightlife spots catering to the community.

TEUSAQUILLO – This district may not be as visibly historic or as attractive as other Bogota neighborhoods, but with its location just north of the centre of the city, it’s a good option if you’ve got a few days to spare in the Colombian capital. It’s also a popular spot for nature lovers, as it’s in Teusaquillo that you’ll find the city’s largest green space – the Simon Bolivar Metropolitan Park. This sprawling park features a boating pond and numerous trails to stroll, as well as a children’s play park. It’s a surprisingly artsy district, and is the historic home to German, Jewish, Lebanese and Turkish immigrants to the city.

CENTRO INTERNACIONAL – This barrio is Bogota’s CBD. It’s a banking and financial hub where you’ll find skyscrapers, modern shopping malls and plenty of conveniences. It’s a good place to stay in Bogota for business travelers, especially since it’s so well connected to the rest of the city by public transport. Centro Internacional can be a little seedy and frantic at night, but during the day, it’s fine to explore its bargain shops and cultural institutions, such as the nearby National Museum of Colombia.

SANTA FE – Santa Fe makes up part of Bogota’s traditional Downtown district. The many museums and galleries located here make it buzzing with tourists and visitors to the city. Meanwhile, skyscrapers and financial institutions spill into the area from neighboring Centro Internacional. But it’s not all about urban development – there’s a rural portion of this neighborhood in the Eastern Hills where you’ll find Montserrate, the landmark mountain that dominates Bogota’s skyline. This is a great place to stay in Bogota for culture and nature alike.

Other neighborhoods in Bogota

There are some other areas where you can find some great Airbnbs in Bogota. One of these is La Macarena (not the famous song), which is a boho, hipster district situated close to Plaza del Toros. It’s home to art galleries and the Moorish style Santamaria Bullring, a concert venue, and is well connected to get around the city.

Parque De La 93, in the north of the city, is an affluent district set within the larger barrio of El Chico. This family-friendly area is also well equipped with high-end shopping, nightlife, and a good selection of restaurants.

Also in the north, Avenida Chile (aka Calle 72) is arguably Bogota’s most sophisticated area, once home to some of the city’s richest inhabitants. Though remnants of the English and Swiss-style homes can still be seen, it’s now home to skyscrapers and high-end hotels.

Now that you’ve got all these amazing neighborhoods to think about, it’s time to check out the best Bogota Airbnb. All the properties I mention are listed on Airbnb, some are listed both on Airbnb and Booking.com. In that case, I have included a link to Booking.com as it is my choice for accommodation bookings.

The Most Unique Bogota Airbnb

If you are accustomed to Airbnb, you will know that there are all sorts of places you can rent, which can be roughly summed up like this:

ENTIRE APARTMENT – These are the most common Airbnbs in Bogota. You may find a studio apartment which is good for a solo traveler or a couple, or a larger place that can fit a family or a small group of friend.

PRIVATE ROOM – Private rooms in a house or apartment aren’t that common in Bogota, but they are available. If you like the idea of staying in a place where you can communicate with your host in person and on a regular basis, and practice your Spanish language skills, a homestay may be a good idea.

BOUTIQUE HOTEL OR HOSTELS – Not so common on Airbnb, actually, but still available.

My personal preference when it comes to Airbnbs – anywhere in the world – is that of a full apartment or a private room in house, with the host. Since the capital of Colombia is a very affordable city, for the purpose of this post I have decided to select some unique, beautiful entire apartments and Airbnbs in Bogota.
