You arrived in Belarus, stayed a couple of weeks, and realized that you didn’t want to leave it. So the question arises, how to legally stay in the country for a long time? You just need to apply for a temporary residence permit.

Who needs a temporary residence permit?

Permission must be obtained to persons who are in the country for more than 90 days, but they do not have a basis for obtaining a residence permit.

Permission is issued to:

• Person who get education in the Republic of Belarus - for the period of education, but not more than one year;

• Person who are spouses, close relatives of citizens of the Republic of Belarus, foreigners permanently residing in the Republic of Belarus - for a term of stay, but not more than one year;

• Person engaged in labor activities under employment contracts - for a term of stay, but not more than one year;

• Person in respect of whom guardianship (trusteeship) is established by citizens of the Republic of Belarus - for the period of establishing guardianship (trusteeship), but not more than one year;

• Person who have grounds for acquiring citizenship of the Republic of Belarus through registration, for a term of stay, but not more than one year;

• Person who have a right of ownership to a dwelling in the Republic of Belarus - for a term of stay, but not more than one year;

• Persons who, in the manner established by the legislative acts of the Republic of Belarus, have applied for refugee status or additional protection or asylum in the Republic of Belarus, for the period of consideration of the application;

• Person who have been granted refugee status in the Republic of Belarus - for a period of not more than one year to obtain a permanent residence permit;

• Person who have been granted additional protection in the Republic of Belarus - for the period of the provision of additional protection, but not more than one year;

• Person who receive inpatient medical care in healthcare organizations of the Republic of Belarus - for the period of treatment, but not more than one year;

• Person who accompany a patient receiving medical care in a healthcare organization of the Republic of Belarus and (or) provide care for such a person, provided that such a person due to health reasons needs this support (care), for the duration of treatment such a person, but not more than one year.

In order to obtain a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Belarus, a foreigner must go to the department of citizenship and migration of the internal affairs body at the place of intended temporary residence.

Required documents

The department of citizenship and migration will ask you for a permit application, a document confirming the existence of grounds for obtaining a temporary residence permit; a document confirming the legality of the stay of a foreign citizen or stateless person in the Republic of Belarus; a document for traveling abroad, or a certificate confirming the identity of a foreign citizen; a certificate of termination of citizenship of the Republic of Belarus - for a person who has terminated citizenship of the Republic of Belarus, or of citizenship of the Republic of Belarus - for a person who is not a citizen of the Republic of Belarus; passport; refugee certificate - for foreign citizens and stateless persons who have been granted refugee status in the Republic of Belarus; health insurance policy; a document confirming the legal source of income that provides a foreign citizen or a stateless person and members of his family a living wage established in the Republic of Belarus; document confirming the possibility of living at the place of intended temporary residence.

Procedure for obtaining a temporary residence permit

After filing the application and all necessary documents, you need to wait 15 days, but in some cases it can be done on the day of filing. Typically a permit is issued for no more than a year and if you still have reasons, you can renew it for another year.

Reasons for obtaining permission

The grounds remain the same:

• study or work in Belarus;

• married to a foreigner permanently residing in Belarus;

• are under the tutelage (guardianship) of a citizen of Belarus;

• Belarusian, but born outside of modern Belarus, or your ancestors were born in Belarus;

• Previously, you had citizenship of the Republic of Belarus (and, for example, you refused it);

• you own a dwelling in Belarus;

• Have filed or have already received refugee status, asylum or additional protection;

• You have circ*mstances in which you cannot be expelled from the country. For example, if you are under state protection, or in the country of citizenship, your life and freedom are in danger;

• You cannot get to any other state. For example, you are a stateless person or a refugee who cannot be deported elsewhere;

• Treating in a hospital. You can come to Belarus for long-term treatment and get RVP for this time.

Terms for obtaining permission

The term for this administrative procedure is 15 days from the date of application.

The cost of a state fee for a temporary residence permit is three base rates.

Validity period

Validity of the permit is limited to one year.
