For example, Statistica may have a chart stating the crime rate of Atlanta for the last 5 years, and they may then cite a report by the Atlanta Department of Corrections. With a lot of these sites, you can use them as a shortcut to the source you're looking for, but in my opinion, i'd never use them in my citation.

Can you use Statista in academic writing? ›

The Statista database is mainly made up of graphs & charts of statistics and information which the database compiles on different topics, which can be used for college projects and papers. You can use built-in citation tools for many entries, showing where the info came from.

The data is gathered from over 22,500 sources, including studies, scientific journals, trade reports, statistical publications, and many more. Out of this extensive content base 49% of our data is exclusive to Statista, 16% come from secondary sources, and 35% are derived from unique data partnerships.

Once you are on your chosen statistic or graph, Statista has a citation generator on the right hand side of the graphic. The button appears as a set of quotation marks. Simply choose your citation style and citation will appear. You can then copy and paste into your references list.
