In programming terms, "good enough" is a concept that refers to the idea that a software solution does not need to be perfect or completely optimized in order to be considered acceptable or functional.

The principle of good enough or "good enough" principle is a rule in software and systems design. It indicates that consumers will use products that are good enough for their requirements, despite the availability of more advanced technology.

The term was introduced by the Nobel laureate Herbert A. Simon in 1956 and is defined as a decision-making strategy that aims for a satisfactory or adequate result, rather than an optimal solution.

“Good” connotes more of a quality of measurement that shows it does more than meets the minimum objective or subjective criteria. From the producers side that the additional quality or effort would not be appreciated by the evaluator. All this to say unless you are British then “good enough” is a huge compliment.

The paradox comes into play when we have a sense of comfort and familiarity in our current situation, but we also know that we could have more or better. We may feel like we're in a "good enough" situation, but we're not truly happy or fulfilled. This paradox can be seen in many different areas of life.

The most important characteristics of software features include usability, reliability, performance, and security. These ensure the software is easy to use, works consistently, runs efficiently, and protects user data from threats.

For many organisms it isn't survival of the fittest; it is survival of the good enough. An organism that is superbly adapted to its environment will most likely not only survive, but probably produce a lot of offspring, the ultimate definition of evolutionary success.

The maintainability of software depends on a few different factors. In general, it must be easy to understand the software (how it works, what it does, and why it does it the way it does), easy to find what needs to be change, easy to make changes and easy to check that the changes have not introduced any bugs.
