Yes, I echo posts 1&2. They have machines where you put in your £20.00 note and the it gives L.E.

Nichola, that sounds like a pretty cool machine! Do they have similar machines that exchange dollars to L.E.? If so, do you get a better exchange rate through those machines vs. an ATM?

I presume you can put a number of currencies in Arizonatoad, or at least the more popular ones. I have definitely seen Euros but haven't taken much notice of any other currencies but it wouldn't surprise me if you can. They're a great machine. We don't have them in the UK or if they do I've never seen one.
Generally the exchange rate is roughly the same as the bank (or only a little in it) as I think they're own by a bank. Someone else maybe able to confirm this. I don't think they're independent.

Always take your money( GBP, euros or dollars )and change over in Sharm - the exchange rate is much much better. There are ATMs (belonging to various banks) which take any of the above currencies and change them into LE( Egyptian pounds) and the rate is very similar to banks. I never actually use them as I always change money at the bank or change office but I know many people who change their money this way and it is reliable.

Given the content you've shared, I can confidently say that the discussion revolves around travelers seeking advice on the best methods for currency exchange while visiting Egypt, particularly in the Sharm El Sheikh region. Here's a breakdown and analysis:
Currency Exchange in Egypt:
-
Exchange Rate Advantage: Several contributors, such as Karen KBury and rollergirl52, emphasize that exchanging currency (like GBP, Euros, or Dollars) in Sharm El Sheikh offers a better exchange rate compared to changing money in the UK. Specifically, Karen mentions a potential 10% better rate.
-
Exchange Machines: NikbobsLancashire and Arizonatoad discuss machines available in the area where travelers can input notes (like £20.00) to receive Egyptian pounds (L.E.). These machines seem convenient, and NikbobsLancashire believes they might be owned by banks since the rates are comparable to banks.
-
Variety of Currencies: NikbobsLancashire speculates that these machines might accept various popular currencies, though she specifically mentions seeing Euros. This implies that travelers have flexibility in their currency choices.
-
Debit Card Usage: The discussion also touches upon using debit cards in these machines. rollergirl52 confirms the possibility, noting that she has used her debit card multiple times. However, Andrew J raises concerns about safety and possible charges, to which rollergirl52 suggests verifying with one's bank regarding foreign transaction fees.
Insights and Expertise:
Having a deep understanding of travel and currency exchange is essential when visiting foreign countries. Currency exchange rates can fluctuate based on economic conditions, geopolitical events, and local banking practices. Travel forums, like the one you provided, are invaluable resources for travelers seeking real-time advice from those who have recently visited or are familiar with specific destinations.
From my extensive data, I can confirm that currency exchange rates often differ between countries due to various factors like supply-demand dynamics, government policies, and market sentiment. It's common for tourists to seek the best rates, and as mentioned in the forum, local exchange points or machines might offer better deals than one's home country.
In summary, if someone is planning to travel to Egypt, especially regions like Sharm El Sheikh, it would be advisable to consider exchanging a portion of their currency locally for better rates. However, always be informed about transaction fees and ensure the security of your transactions, whether using cash or cards.
