  2. Log into the bank’s online or mobile banking.
  3. Fill out your money transfer details.Make sure to include your receiver’s complete information3.
  4. Choose your payment method.You can pay from your debit card directly.
  5. Track your transfer.Upon successful payment, you’ll see the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) on screen, which you can use totrack your transfer.
  6. Inform your receiver.Share the MTCN with your receiver and let them know that the cash is ready for pickup at one of our agent locations. Do not disclose your money transfer details to anyone except your intended receiver.

Which online services can I use to send money from China?

You can send money through the following Western Union partner banks via online or mobile banking:

  • China Everbright Bank (CEB)
  • Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (SPDB)
  • Postal Savings Bank of China (PSBC)
  • Bank of China (BOC. Mobile banking only)

Postal Savings Bank of China implemented a new policy to restrict its money transfer business to 73 countries/territories as per its internal risk control requirement. It only processes money transfers sent or received to/from 73 countries and territories.

The 73 whitelist countries and territories are:
Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China-Hong Kong, China-Macau, Commonwealth of Dominica, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Gambia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Uruguay.

In China, a bank account may be required by the bank for sending money in cash.
Please consult the local bank location for more details. Overseas receiver can pick up cash without a bank account.

Please note: Western Union agents are also banks in China who are subject to local regulations, risk control and bank compliance requirements. Some restriction has been recently implemented by WU bank agents on money transfer service to and from selected countries and their passport holders according to the guidance from local regulator and bank risk control. Please check with your WU bank agent location for more details before sending or receiving money.

Important notice: During the outbreak of coronavirus, Western Union bank agent locations are open for service, but bank branches might adjust their operation hours based on the local virus situation. To prevent the spread of the epidemic and reduce unnecessary travel, it’s highly recommended to send and receive money online through one of our partner banks offering a Western Union branded money transfer service, or to use our Direct to Bank service to receive funds. If you must go to a bank branch, please make a call to the location about its operation hours before your visit. Which are the acceptable IDs to send money from China?

You’ll need to present one of the following government-issued ID:

  • China Identification Card
  • Passport (Excludes Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan passports)
  • Mainland Travel Permit (For Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents only)

Acceptable IDs are subject to the banking laws and regulations of China.
