Because of *gestures at the past 11 months* it's really no surprise that Ugg boots made the comeback they did. Of course, if you stretch your memory back before all that, you'll recall the celebrity guilty pleasure was already plotting its return, coasting in on the ironic-aughts-nostalgia-turned-earnest-outfit-choice wave that also encompassed velour and puka shell necklaces. (The concretion of the 2000s revival really owes a lot to COVID, when you think about it.)

People just want to be comfy, it's not complicated to understand. And Selena Gomez's recent outfit encapsulates that desire from head to toe. While on set for Steve Martin's new comedy series, "Only Murders in the Building," Gomez wore the shoes we've come to expect from celebs on set and elsewhere, Ugg Bailey Button II Boots. But she also wore a coat from the brand that's so comfy, warm, and loved by A-listers that it's practically the Ugg boot of coats: Canada Goose.

Gomez's Canada Goose Black Label Mystique Parka is as close to a literal duvet as it gets, but with the added bonus of a tailored fit, full-length zipper closure, and conveniences like internal and external pockets, interior backpack straps for shrugging off when worn inside, and a removable hood. Canada Goose's arctic-defense outwear has been called "the last winter coat you'll ever need to buy" and has been worn by everyone from Jennifer Lopez and Aubrey Plaza to Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde.

Generally speaking, Canada Goose coats need no introduction. But along with broad brand awareness comes the knowledge that they don't come cheap. Gomez's particular coat costs nearly $1,200, which is on the higher end for the brand, but certainly not the highest. On the more affordable end of outerwear, you can find parkas for under $400 and puffer vests for $425. Thankfully, the brand also excels in other cold-weather categories for much less, offering wool beanies for under $100, face masks for $75, and the warmest mittens money can buy for $175.

In a social climate where everyone and their TikToker niece is opting into Uggs, we're not surprised to see Canada Goose re-grip the interest of famous people. And, if the trajectory of Uggs has been any indication, it's just a matter of time before Canada Goose's already-popular coats find their way into cozy pandemic closets everywhere.
