Secrets to saving money at Pottery Barn & Pottery Barn Kids (2024)

March 9, 2015March 9, 2015

We all know I –LOVEPottery Barn(and Pottery Barn Kids). I mean, who doesn’t?? It’s fantastic, timeless and good quality. I’ve never owned a single Pottery Barn brand {ANY thing} that I didn’t love (okay, okay- so the Seabury sofa was a tad disappointing with the goose down cushions being deflated in the middle where the cushions met… That sofa definitely needed to be three cushions instead of two- that’s my *fix* for the problem, any way- in case PB is looking for my input).

The one thing none of us love about Pottery Barn/Pottery Barn Kids is the price tag. It’s not always something we can justify spending the money on, I get it. But, there are some wonderful ways you CAN save money at Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids- ways that can actually make this store affordable for any super savvy frugalista, like myself.- and guess what? I’m going to share these SECRETS with YOU- right NOW!

{The biggest way to snag a mega deal on PB or PBK is to find something second hand on Craigslist. I ALWAYS search “Pottery Barn” in the search terms on Craigslist, just to see what’s going on in my area (remember, the post about that time I got a Pottery Barn couch and loveseat for FREE from Craigslist? No? Click HERE to get yourself caught up on that one!)- but this post is for the items in the catalogs, the ones you *WANT* and the ones you could possibly see yourself buying NEW … if the price was right!}

  1. Sign up to receive the Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids catalogs– Sometimes just for signing up to receive the catalogs you’ll get a little coupon or discount, you will also receive coupons tucked inside your catalogs from time to time. (plus, the added benefit to this one, is the design inspiration. Who doesn’t love flipping through the beautiful rooms and thinking “Oooooh, I could do this!”)
  2. Sign up to receive the Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids promotional emails– even if you’re not a fan of filling up your inbox, it really helps to be able to get the emails with special discounts just for you! These are promotional codes that aren’t actually a “sale” available to everyone. Just for you, because you’re so special… and er, they want you to spend your money with them!
  3. Contact your closest Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids retail stores and request to have your email address added to their “floor model clearance event” emails. This one is vital. I have a PBK (Pottery Barn Kids) about an hour and five minutes drive from my house. I am on this magical email list. Just the other day I received this email. This exclusive offer for discounted floor models. This clearance event happens every so often, but when it does- immediately scan through the email for any items you may have had your eye on. I had just gotten out of the shower when I noticed the little email light flashing on my phone, I opened the email and scanned through while I was drying my hair (waste no time here people)- there it was- the trundle I had been considering buying for my boys. This one would go with their bunk bed. The trundle retails for $349 + tax, shipping, etc.- this one was a floor model, and it was on clearance for $99!! I immediately called the store, I made the purchase over the phone and the associate emailed me a receipt- just like that- done!… AND since this store is over an hour away and bad weather was looming, I requested that the store hold my trundle for me until the weekend, and they were so kind and accommodating (as all GOOD retail associates should be) they agreed to hold it for a week! *This PBK is located in the “Short Pump” shopping plaza in Richmond, Virginia- so if any of my readers are anywhere near there check them out, the manager was wonderful! She even came right out to help me load the trundle in my suv- I definitely give them a two thumbs up on the whole transaction and cannot wait to see what kind of floor model clearance items I can snag up for a deal next time!!*
  4. “Follow” Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Outlet on Facebook to see regular posts about sales events that are coming up– This one might not sound like that big of a deal, but if you’re anywhere near an outlet and you’ve “liked” the Pottery Barn Outlet page, you will see announcements posted about additional 20-30% or clearance events, etc.- this is wonderful for being able to plan ahead for purchases. If an item you like is on sale at an outlet and an even bigger discount than what your retail or online store can offer- you’re SAVING money!!!
  5. Join “Pottery Barn Fanatic” facebook groups to exchange promo codes and such with other PB and PBK fanatics just like you!! It’s really great to be able to network with other people who are sharing the same common goals in life (saving money and having wonderful stuff)- I ordered some stuff from PBK over Christmas and was able to save money by using a promo code. I have also gotten promo codes that were exclusive offers emailed to only me, and didn’t “need” to use them, so I posted them for others to take advantage of. It’s just a positive way to spread the love, people.
  6. This one is kind of dangerous and completely goes against the “Dave Ramsey” way of living but getting a Pottery Barn credit card can be a wonderful way to save money on purchases (for example, getting rewards points for your purchases and receiving $25 off of $50- or more- on purchases is really handy for purchases that you PLANNED on making anyway)- Also, that trundle I bought? Yep- I used my PB credit card and received the rewards point for the purchase. The second the transaction posted to my account, I paid it off. I had the cash to buy it when I made the purchase, but I wanted to get my rewards- so even though this one may be a dangerous game to play for some- I believe I’m in an advanced stage of recovery from my status as a shopaholic. I trusted myself to make the purchase and then promptly pay it, and that is exactly what I did.
  7. Make an appointment with a Design Specialist.– How does that save money? For one, it’s a free appointment. Secondly, not only do you get free design assistance from a professional at Pottery Barn, you also get an additional 10% OFF when you make a purchase! I recently had a delightful Design Specialist from the Pottery Barn in Norfolk, Virginia come TO MY HOUSE.I was considering which sectional to order (I know, I know, I wasn’t planning to spend that much- but wait!)- I had sold some of the furniture I wasn’t using in this house and set myself a budget of $2,000. When I went online to price out the furniture from other places I realized that Pottery Barn was actually a lot CHEAPER than many of the furniture companies out there. The design specialist helped me figure out which sectional would work in my space. We were talking about the “Pearce” sectional because it was 30% off and with all of the discounts, etc. I could get the one I really wanted for right around $2,000. IF I had not done the search I would have never even known that this was a legitimate option for me (with my budget)… and NOW I know that getting a design appointment from Pottery Barn is not only fun- it saves me even MORE money! Win!! *side note: the discount applies to ANY items you purchase, so if you need something for your kitchen or any other room in your home, you can get the discount on those items, too- even if your design appointment was only for help with a sofa purchase!*

Well, that’s it, folks. That’s my little list of ways to save BIG at Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids!! I hope it helps you save tons of money on your next {intentional} purchase!!

XOXO

      Hi Jen! Yes, in most cases they do allow you to layer discounts- but it may require a phone call to place the order if you’re shopping online. You can ALWAYS redeem the bonus rewards (usually a $25 off of $50 when you use your PB credit card) in addition to a promotional discount (say 20% off entire purchase). I hope that helps you- happy shopping and SAVING!!
