Seaspiracy (March, 2021) Netflix Original Documentary Movie Analysis (2024)

Seaspiracy movie study is a set of questions highlighting the key discoveries in the original Netflix documentary about the environmental impact of the global fishing industry by British moviemaker Ali Tabrizi. Released date: March 24, 2021. The movie already has attracted celebrity endorsem*nts and plaudits from fans with its damning picture of the fishing industry and its harm to oceans and marine life. Keep students focus. Every fact matters.

IMPORTANT: There are some graphic scenes of the whale and fish slaughters. You might want to consider it before showing it to your students. Also, NGOs, sustainability labels, and experts quoted in Seaspiracy have accused the filmmakers of making “misleading claims”, using out-of-context interviews and erroneous statistics.

Seaspiracy is already causing controversy and dividing opinions on social media. It is a great conversation starter about sustainability, renewable resources, the impact of human activities, and more. The conversations with activists and experts question the idea of sustainable fishing, shine a spotlight on the aquaculture industry, and introduce the notion of “blood shrimp,” seafood tainted with slave labor and human rights abuses.
