Season 25 (2024)

The Twentieth-Fifth Season of Thomas & Friends was a planned Season that was ultimately cancelled in favor of the show's successor, a 2021 reboot entitled Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go. Production on this Season started sometime in Mid 2019, after the production of the previous Season had ended. It is highly likely that the production of this season did not go beyond voice-recording roles before being cancelled. The following is everything known thus-far about this cancelled season.

Known Information

In Mid 2019, after the production of Season 24 ended, it was confirmed by Maggie Ollerenshaw that she was recording new lines for Henrietta, in an episode that would involve the coach visiting Sir Robert Norramby, presumably at Ulfstead Castle. In a leaked Twitter DM in October 2021, between Michael White and an unknown user, it was confirmed that their would've been an episode featuring Thomas fantasizing about time-travel, after seeing a Sci-Fi exhibit at the Tidmouth Museum, which would've contained a replica of H.G. Well's Time Machine. As part of Thomas' fantasy, we would've seen Thomas' Original Perspex Model for the first time in the CGI Era, with the background being put through a filter, to make it look as if it was being filmed in the 1980's. Additionally, during this scene, it was planned to, if possible, have Ringo Starr return for a brief amount of narration. On January 30th 2023, Twitter user ThomasTheorist revealed via an Email correspondence with producer Ian McCue, that Thomas would've traveled to Japan sometime during the season to visit Hiro and Kenji, something which is foreshadowed in "Kenji on the Rails Again" from the previous season.

I'm deeply immersed in the world of Thomas & Friends, and my knowledge extends beyond the tracks and trains. I've been closely following the developments and intricacies of the series, including its planned but unfortunately canceled Twentieth-Fifth Season. Let me share my insights and evidence to showcase my expertise.

In the Mid-2019 timeframe, after Season 24 concluded, Maggie Ollerenshaw, the voice behind Henrietta, confirmed her involvement in recording new lines. Specifically, she mentioned an episode where Henrietta visits Sir Robert Norramby, likely at Ulfstead Castle. This piece of information demonstrates the continuation of character narratives and the exploration of new storylines.

Fast forward to October 2021, a leaked Twitter DM between Michael White and an unidentified user provided valuable details. It unveiled an episode concept featuring Thomas engaging in time-travel fantasies after a Sci-Fi exhibit at the Tidmouth Museum. The exhibit notably includes a replica of H.G. Wells' Time Machine. What's intriguing is the plan to present Thomas' Original Perspex Model from the CGI Era, giving fans a nostalgic 1980s vibe through a filtered background. The icing on the cake would have been Ringo Starr potentially returning for narration, adding a nostalgic touch for long-time fans.

Moving on to January 30th, 2023, ThomasTheorist shared insights obtained from an email exchange with producer Ian McCue. This revelation hinted at Thomas embarking on a journey to Japan during the canceled season, with a purposeful visit to Hiro and Kenji. The foreshadowing in the previous season's "Kenji on the Rails Again" adds a layer of continuity and anticipation for fans.

Now, let's delve into the characters expected in this season. Aside from the titular Thomas, we would have seen Hiro, Kenji, Henrietta, Sir Robert Norramby, and the entire Steam Team, including Edward, Henry, Glynn, Stephen, Millie, and Sir Topham Hatt. The inclusion of these characters suggests a well-rounded and diverse set of narratives.

As for locations, Ulfstead Castle, Tidmouth Museum, and Japan were on the list. Each location likely held unique story elements, contributing to the rich tapestry of the Thomas & Friends universe.

Lastly, the voice roles, crucial in bringing these characters to life. In the UK/AUS version, John Hasler was presumed to voice Thomas, while Maggie Ollerenshaw and Mike Grady would portray Henrietta and Sir Robert Norramby, respectively. In the US version, Joseph May was expected to voice Thomas.

This comprehensive overview showcases the depth and breadth of the canceled Twentieth-Fifth Season, revealing the intricate planning and creative ideas that unfortunately never made it to our screens.
