Registeringfor Scotia OnLine is easy. Once you are registered, you can make your accounts accessible through Scotia OnLine.

No. To use Scotia OnLine, you must enter your ScotiaCard number and password. Unless you reveal these details to someone else, only you can access your account information.

Your savings, chequing, credit cards, mortgages, personal loans, lines of credit and term deposits.

If you obtain a new Scotiabank product (i.e. account, credit card) after signing to Scotia Online Banking, your accounts will be automatically available for view and to transact on through both Scotia OnLine and Scotia Mobile Banking.

Your current balance is the amount of money you have in that account, factoring in all transactions that have been processed to date. Your available balance is the amount of money you have available to you at that moment. It is the amount remaining after factoring in all transactions processed to date, any funds on hold, and overdraft protection on that account (if applicable).

Masking an account will replace some of the characters of your account number with asterisks (*) everywhere your account numbers appear, which includes "Account Summary", "Account Details", drop down lists, etc. so no one will be able to read your account number.

This feature applies only to savings and chequing/checking accounts, credit cards and lines of credit.

If you use the "Remember my Card" feature, you also have the option to assign a "nickname" to your card (e.g., "Sam"). The nickname is a personalized description that will appear alongside your "masked" card number in a dropdown menu on the sign-on.

  1. Select "Settings" from the top menu
  2. Select "Alerts"
  3. Click on "Enable Alerts"
  4. Review your contact information and confirm they are up to date.
  5. Select a delivery method for the alert you want to receive, the applicable accounts and if required, a minimum amount.
  6. Click on "Save"

Access / Sign On

  1. Select "Settings" from the top menu
  2. Select "Security Settings"
  3. From the "Change Password" tab enter the following:
    • Old password
    • Create a new password (New password)
    • Re-enter password
  4. Click "Change Password"

If you suspect or know that your password has been lost, stolen or otherwise tampered with, immediately re-select a new password by using the "Change Password" option under the "Settings" section. If you suspect that your accounts have been tampered with, please contact a Customer Service Representative and report it immediately.

At Scotiabank, your security is our priority. In the unlikely event that an unauthorized transaction is conducted: (1) Notify the bank immediately in the event of a loss; (2) Re-set your password through Scotia OnLine.

If you are away from Scotia OnLine for more than 10 minutes, you will be signed off automatically for your security and protection. If you received a reference number for your transaction, you will know that it has been processed. No reference number means the transaction was cancelled. Sign back on by re-entering your card number and password.

Registering your computer creates a link between your computer and Scotia OnLine. If you often access Scotia OnLine using the same computer, registering will make future access quicker and easier. Please note to only register computers that you use frequently and avoid registering public computers. You may have a maximum of three computers registered at one time.

Bill payments and Fund Transfers

A payee is a company to which you pay bills.

  1. Select "Pay" from the top menu
  2. Select "Pay a Bill"
  3. From the "Enter" tab select the payee from the available payee list and click "Next"
  4. From the "Details" tab" select the following and click "Next":
    • Choose the account where the payment will be taken from
    • Enter the amount to pay
    • Frequency of payment (One time, weekly or monthly), payment date (When) or starting and ending date.
  5. Confirm the details of the bill payment and click "Pay"

Once you submit your bill payment, the funds will be instantly debited from your account. Depending on the bill payment company's processing policies, the payment may take up to four days to process.

To be able to pay a bill, your payee must be an institution that subscribes to Scotiabank's bill payment service. This list of companies continues to grow on a regular basis.

If you have insufficient funds in the account or there are holds on the funds, your bill payment transaction will not be processed. This will not affect other bill payments you have set up if the funds are available.

Funds transfers between deposit accounts occur real-time, 7 days a week. That means that if you transfer money from your Savings Account to your Chequing Account, those funds will be available immediately.
