FAQS

Can I insure my scooter as a food delivery driver?

Yes, provided that ‘business use’ and ‘food delivery’ are selected as the main use for the scooter, not ‘private use.’ Food delivery insurance for riders is very important, given the number of kilometres that many riders do each day. Business use is not covered in NSW. If you are unsure which usage applies to your bike, please call us on 13RIDE (13 74 33)

Do I need to be listed as the rider in order to be covered?

No. While fast food delivery companies often require that riders’ names are listed on an insurance policy in Australia, Swann motor scooter insurance doesn’t require you to list them, as all riders of a scooter are automatically covered, provided they are legally allowed to ride a scooter. Additional excesses may apply depending on the individual rider, their age and riding/driving history.

Does Swann scooter insurance cover hiring out of motor scooters?

No. Scooters that are hired aren’t covered by Swann motor scooter insurance in Australia. This includes hired scooter for tour groups, self-guided tours, or riders who hire a bike for use as a delivery rider.

What are the different types of Insurance Cover?

  • Comprehensive insurance will cover your scooter if it is accidentally damaged, stolen or burnt anywhere in Australia. Comprehensive Insurance will also cover you for your liability to pay compensation for loss or damage to someone else’s property as a result of an accident anywhere in Australia.
  • Third Party Liability Insurance will cover you for your liability to pay compensation for loss or damage to someone else’s property as a result of an accident anywhere in Australia.

If you would like to discuss our cover options or have any questions, please contact one of our friendly team members on 13RIDE (13 74 33) or via our online contact form.

How much will my scooter be insured for?

Swann Insurance offers both Agreed value and Market value options on our Comprehensive cover giving you flexible options to choose from, at new business and renewal.

Market Value is the pre-accident value of your scooter. We will determine this at the time we assess your claim, having regard to the age and condition of your scooter and the kilometres it has travelled.

Agreed Value is the fixed amount we agree to cover your scooter for in the current period of insurance.

What discounts are available?

We offer a number of discounts that may be available to you:

  • Rider Training Discount If you have completed an advanced accredited rider training course
  • Security Device Discount If your scooter is fitted with an electronic immobiliser or tracking device
  • Multi Motorcycle Discount when you have two or more scooters or motorcycles under one Insurance policy.
  • Named Rider Discount when you have two or more scooters or motorcycles under one insurance policy and restrict the rider of the bike to the person named on the policy

To check if you are eligible for these discounts, please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) or contact us on 13RIDE (13 74 33)

Any applicable discounts may be subject to minimum premiums. Discounts only apply until a minimum premium is reached. When we determine your premium on renewal, we may also limit any increases or decreases in your premium by considering factors such as your previous year’s premium amount.

*Rider Training, Security Device & Named Rider Discounts apply to Comprehensive Cover Only

Can anyone ride my scooter and still be covered?

Yes, we don’t ask you to list additional riders on your policy. The policy will cover other riders provided you have given them permission and they are legally allowed to ride your scooter. Additional excesses may apply depending on the individual rider, their age and riding/driving history. Please note cover excludes theft whilst being tested by a prospective purchaser.

Please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for more information and additional excesses that may apply to other riders.
