Save time and money on chores with these 3 tricks (2024)

Life can get a little crazy.

Between work and the never-ending to-do list, there just isn’t enough time.

What if I said you could easily cut back on chores and save money at the same time?

Sound too good to be true?

Here are 3 simple tricks for you to save time and money.

Say goodbye to dry-cleaning

When I started working my corporate job, I had to wear a suit every day.

The first time I took my clothes to get dry cleaned, I was SHOCKED. I did a big load thinking I was being smart saving myself time doing it all at once. My bill was over $300! Talk about a jaw dropper!

I vouched to find a solution. There was no way I going to pay for my clothes 3 times over in a year’s time for cleaning. At that price, I rather buy new clothes.

I knew throwing everything in the wash was not the answer. I didn’t want to end up having to replace my closet prematurely. So I got to digging.

There had to be a solution.Sure enough, there was.

Have you heard of Dryel? If you haven’t, this is about to rock your world.

I wouldn’t recommend it for high-end clothing but chances are the majority of your clothes are not Prada expensive. Realistically, it’s not worth paying $5-$10 to dry-clean a shirt that’s worth $80. You’ll end up paying it several times over.

So here’s the deal.Dryel is for all that stuff that’s too nice too put in the wash but not that nice that it needs to be professionally dry-cleaned.

It honestly so easy to use. No need to go drop and then pick up at the cleaners anymore! Not to mention it only cost a few dollars instead of $5-$10 per item. Crazy savings as far as time and money go!

All you do is toss your clothes in aDryel bag, add in the wet cloth that comes in the starter kit and put it in the dryer for 15 minutes. Done! It’s that simple.

No need to go to the dry cleaners every week. No need to spend a fortune anymore.

It’s so much cheaper and honestly normal wear and tear will get to your clothes before Dryel does. I’ve been using it for years and haven’t noticed my clothes deteriorate.

You can find Dryel at Walmart, Target and really just about any grocery or convenience store. The stuff is everywhere. You can even order it on Amazon and save yourself the trip to the store.

Automate recurring purchases

Every household needs the basics:

  • laundry detergent
  • toilet paper
  • dishwasher soap
  • shampoo
  • toothpaste
  • trash bags
  • soap

The list goes on but we all use these at a steady and predictable rate. What I mean is you’re going to keep needing these in a consistent and predictable manner.

Chances are, if you go through a roll of toilet paper this week, then you’re probably going to go through another roll next week.

The point is, you can predict when you will need toilet paper again. The same goes for all the household items you use consistently like toothpaste, shampoo soap, detergent, etc.

Why is that relevant?

Since they’re predictable, you can easily set up automatic orders and never have to worry about them again. More importantly, you’ll never run out of toilet paper!

You’ll save tons of time not having to make emergency stops at the store. Avoiding unnecessary grocery runs is also better on the wallet.

Honestly, how many times have you gone into the store with the intention of buying one thing but leaving with an entire basket?

I almost never leave with that one and only item I came for. Without fail, I’ll walk by the deli section, look at the pre-made meals and say to myself: “you know what, I’m pretty tired today, I’ll just get ready made food here instead of cooking dinner at home”.

Save yourself the temptation, the time and the money!

Moral of the story is if you know you run through a bag of dog food every 2 weeks then set up an automatic delivery every 2 weeks.

If you have no idea how long it takes you to use that stuff up, no problem!

Next time you open up a new bottle of shampoo, write down the date with a sharpie. You can easily track how long it takes you to use up anything and everything in your home. Once you have that magic number, jump online and set up a subscription with Amazon or Walmart. Personally, I’m a fan of Amazon Subscribe&Save andhere’s why.

Skip the store, order your groceries online

If you’re anything like me, going to the store is definitely an errand. Some of my friends actually enjoy picking out their food but personally, I’m not fussed if someone else does it for me. Life is busy enough, why not save a few hours a week on a chore?

Without fail, if I go to the store even remotely hungry I impulse and overbuy (usually junk food).

Shopping online takes that temptation away for me. Save yourself from buying what you don’t need!

Not to mention having to commute to and from the store, spending time at the store, waiting in line, having to carry your groceries to the kitchen.

Skip ALL OF THAT and shop online instead!

Do some Googling, depending on where you live, you’ll be able to find a supermarket that delivers for pretty cheap. It usually runs at around $7 which is likely not much more than gas.

If you plan ahead of time most of the stores have set days where they deliver to your neighborhood for free.

Groceries online was a game changer for me. I don’t waste any time in the store, I don’t have to bother carrying all my stuff out of the car and up the stairs, I never wait in line and I never get tempted by things I shouldn’t be eating or buying.

If there’s ever any produce that doesn’t look fresh, I just put it back in the box and they swap it out for me the next day.

GAME CHANGER!
