WHAT ARE THESE CHARGES FOR?
Electric Generation
This pays for your source of power and how much electricity you’re using. Your rate will vary depending on the type of service you choose: GreenSource, TotalGreen, or PG&E.
PG&E Added Fees
PG&E adds a fee to SJCE customer bills called the Power Charge Indifference Adjustment (PCIA). All electric consumers in PG&E territory pay the PCIA to cover PG&E’s above-market costs from legacy energy contracts and power plant operations (the PCIA is embedded in the electricity rate for customers receiving generation service from PG&E).
Electric Delivery
PG&E still delivers your electricity on existing power lines and maintains the lines. The PG&E delivery rates are the same for everyone.
SPECIAL RATES
CARE, FERA and Medical Baseline Discounts
Customers enrolled in SJCE continue to receive the same State electricity bill discount programs. The California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or, Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA), and Medical Baseline programs are available to SJCE customers, as well as PG&E customers. Customers enrolled in SJCE automatically continue to receive their CARE, FERA, and Medical Baseline discount within their PG&E delivery charges.
New CARE, FERA and Medical Baseline enrollments or renewals must still be done through PG&E’s customer service center at (800) 743-5000 or online at PG&E’s website.
SJ Cares
We created SJ Cares to grant customers who are enrolled in CARE or FERA bill assistance programs an additional 10% discount on SJCE charges. CARE and FERA customers are automatically enrolled in this program (no action is needed from you).
Electric Vehicles
SJCE electric vehicle (EV) rate schedules, EV-A, EV-2A, and EV-B, mirror those of PG&E. If you are already enrolled in one of PG&E’s EV charging rate plans, you’ll continue to get these rates with SJCE – with community benefits.
Rate change selections are still made through PG&E. If you would like to enroll on an EV rate, contact PG&E’s customer support line at (800) 743-5000 or www.pge.com. Your rate selection will be communicated to us by PG&E.
Rooftop Solar
SJCE Net Energy Metering (NEM) mirrors PG&E’s NEM program, with a few extra benefits and all the same rates available. Read more about these benefits and review a step-by-step guide to installing solar on our Rooftop Solar page.
Similar to EV rates, all rate change selections should be made through PG&E by calling their customer support line at (800) 743-5000 or online at PG&E’s website. Your rate selection will be communicated to us by PG&E.
