At 6.22 of the video 'reaction of acids and bases with metals' it is told that "IN GENERAL bases do not react with metals to give salt and hydrogen".Does this mean that generally bases do not react with bases at all or is it that,they do react but do not give salt and hydrogen? If the latter is true then what are those products.-parthiv004 • (8 votes) Bases don't react with bases, but I think you meant base-metal reactions. Generally, they don't react, but zinc and aluminum are the exceptions; the ones who don't play by the rules. e.g.: Zn reacts with NaOH to form sodium zincate (Na₂ZnO₂), a salt, and hydrogen. Al reacts with NaOH to form sodium aluminate (NaAlO₂) and hydrogen. Hope this helps. :) Peace. (16 votes) At 4:32 • (4 votes) Hii Prachi. Hydrogen gas burns very easily with oxygen and in the video he explains that hydrogen reacts with oxygen to form this reaction while some other gases like nitrogen, methane etc does t easily burn with oxygen. And the reaction of hydrogen with oxygen is not just exothermic but highly exothermic. If the reactants aren’t mixed in the proper ratio and in a small amount then it can be very dangerous but if you do use the reactants properly then there will only be a pop sound. If we use a wide container then the noise of the sound can be a lil low but still there will be the pop sound because the hydrogen particles are still rushing towards the mouth and colliding with the stationary air particles. (3 votes) why we called HCl in acid • (1 vote) I guess you wanted to ask that why HCl is called acid and so I am answering the in context to that question. HCl is called an acid because it is having the presence of H+ ions and this what all acids are hailing in common - the presence of H+ ions. All the acids will be having the presence of H+ ions and all the bases will be having the presence OH- ions. Hope this helps. (2 votes) what is the chemical formula of calcium carbide? • (2 votes) I think the answer should be; (1 vote) Can acid react with metals?Give reaction • (2 votes) yes they can. the following skeletal equation is what happenes- acid+metal = metal salt + hydrogen gas (0 votes) Can zinc chloride be considered as a precipitate? If yes, where is it found after the reaction of zinc with Hydrogen? one more question related to the one above. In the second experiment, where can we find the sodium zincate after adding zinc metal to sodium hydroxide? • (1 vote) Zinc chloride can not be called a precipitate because it is soluble in water and a precipitate is an insoluble product formed when two or more substances react. (1 vote) I want to know that • (0 votes) It is recommended that to add acid to water for diluting it.But in our stomach there is HCL acid present,so when we drink water why does it then explose? • (1 vote) In our stomach we don't have HCl alone, there are many other gastric glands like Mucous gland,Oxyntic cells, Zymogen cells, Argentaffin cells. Here,HCl is secreted by Oyntic cells which are responsible for antimicrobial activity and activation of enzymes but it's secretion is subsided by mucous secreted from goblet cells. Therefore, it helps in protecting stomach walls and prevents explosion. (0 votes)Want to join the conversation?
Zn + NaOH ---> Na₂ZnO₂ + H₂
Al + NaOH ---> NaAlO₂ + H₂
P. S.: I haven't balanced the equations. Too lazy to work my mind.
And, about base-base reaction: neutralization occurs by the acid donating electron(s) and the base receiving it. But in base-base reactions, that can't happen because both the bases need electron(s) but there's no free electron(s) in the solution. Hence, no reaction. What physically happens, I don't know. Don't they mix, or something like that is beyond my scope.
I really found this question very interesting and was tempted to answer it.
there is any specific rules are present
CaC2
Always happy to help.
Zn+HCl it gaves to ZnCl2+H2 after this U add Zn +2HCl Why you add 2 in font of HCl
