Disney+ just got a little more adult. The streaming service added its first R-rated films in the US on Friday with “Deadpool,” “Deadpool 2” and “Logan.” The movies star Marvel superheroes, but as their ratings suggest, they're decidedly not kid-friendly.

Disney never releases R-rated films under the "Disney" brand; all of these films are published by subsidiaries and thus only indirectly Disney-related, and will generally not receive in-depth coverage here beyond pages on the films themselves.

Content is intended for audiences 15 and over only, and may include some depictions of violence, inappropriate language, and mild suggestive themes. Content is restricted to adults 18 and over only, and may include explicit sexual activity, violence, and drug usage.

Feature films released under the Touchstone label were produced and financed by Walt Disney Studios, and featured more mature themes targeted at adult audiences than typical Walt Disney Pictures films. As such, Touchstone was merely a pseudonym label for the studio and did not exist as a distinct business operation.

More than any other Hollywood studio, Disney has carefully nipped and tucked its image to be synonymous with pristine, family-friendly entertainment. But that doesn't mean it's never made a rated-R movie—in fact, the first R-rated movie by Disney was Down and Out in Beverly Hills, released in 1986.

It has lots of graphic violence, sex (including partial nudity), adult humor, and nonstop strong language. Unlike most other Marvel superhero films, which only hint at romance, include just a few curse words, and skip the gore, Deadpool is decidedly grown-up, bloody, and raunchy by comparison.
