In general, where the minimum entry requirement for your chosen course is a UK first-class undergraduate degree, this equates to an overall US GPA of at least 3.7 based on the 4.0 system.

Requirements vary between courses, but in general our academic departments look for students with the ability, enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment needed to pursue higher-level study here. We welcome applications from students of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds.

The most obvious reason for Oxford's fame is the university. It's the second oldest in the world (allegedly), educator of 28 Nobel Prize winners, and often cited as the best university on the planet. But the reason the university, in England, became so famous isn't simply because it's a great university.

They have consistently ranked among the top 10 institutes in the global rankings. According to the world university rank 2023, Oxford University ranked top and Harvard University ranked second in the list, whilst in the QS world university list Oxford University ranked fourth and Harvard University ranked fifth.

As of 2023, Harvard's acceptance rate is 4%. Half of the applicants accepted at Harvard have an SAT score between 1480 and 1580. On the other hand, Oxford's acceptance rate of about 17.5% is appealing.

Despite its fame and reputation, Oxford University, located in the U.K., is not counted as an Ivy League university. The top eight schools in the USA are collectively known as the Ivy League. Princeton, Columbia, Dartmouth, Brown, Pennsylvania, Cornell, Harvard, and Yale make up the Ivy League.

So... Is Oxford Expensive? Here's the short version of this entire article: Attending Oxford is no more expensive than attending other universities. Most colleges will cover affordable accommodation and there are plenty of programs to get financial assistance should you need it.

We are looking for candidates who have a strong academic background: generally this will mean a good performance at GCSE (or equivalent) and predicted A-level (or equivalent) grades that meet the entrance requirements for a particular course.

Undergraduate qualifications

If your graduate course at Oxford requires a 'first-class undergraduate degree with honours' in the UK system, you will usually need a bachelor's degree with an overall grade of Class 1, 'A' or 80%, or a GPA of 3.7 out of 4.0.

The major GPA score of most participants tends to be above 3.8. Additional criteria for admission include the submission of an example of a written piece of work by the student, a statement of purpose, and recommendations from two faculty members.

The minimum University of Oxford GPA is around 3.7 out of 4.0. So, a 3.0 or lower GPA for Oxford won't cut it. Oxford's acceptance rate for international students is comparable to its general acceptance rate, which is reflected in its diverse student population.
