Introduction
Poverty rates serve as an essential indicator of a country’s socio-economic well-being and the living conditions of its population. While significant progress has been made in reducing global poverty over the past few decades, the challenge remains daunting. According to the World Bank, approximately 9.2% of the world’s population, or around 689 million people, were living in extreme poverty in 2020, defined as surviving on less than $1.90 per day. This figure represents a decline from 10% in 2015 but underscores the persistence of poverty as a global issue.
The distribution of poverty is uneven across regions, with Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia being the most affected.
