Pokemon Party On a Budget (2024)

Having a Pokemon Party is a little boy’s or girl’s dream come true as they turn into Pokemon master trainers by completing Pokemon challenges.

A Pokemon party can befun and eventful with out having to spend a lot of money. I’m sharing everything you need to create this party from printables (located at the bottom of the post) to food ideas, games and party favors.

The key to hosting a good party is the food, theme, and mostly the activities. Keep it simple and focus on what the kids and party guests will remember and that is the activities.

Pokemon Party Ideas

For the Decorations, there is no need to spend a lot of money. I used wrapping paper as my table runner.

Pokemon Drinks

Wrap some red gatorade or powerade drinks with THIS free printable.

Pokemon Party Pikachu Cake

Creating this Pikachu Cake is pretty simple, but will look like it took hours.

• 4 boxes of cake mix.
• 3 tubs ofcan frosting.
• Bottom layer is two 10 inch pans.
• Top layer is two 8 inch pans. So that is 4 layers total.
• Gumballs for the bottom layer trim.
• Sixlets for the middle layer trim.
• Pikachu Face is THIS printable for only 3 dollars or make your own!

Pikachu Party Peeps

Decorate some yellow Easter Peeps with edible food markers to make them look like little Pikachus.

Here’s a list of the five different challenges to complete in order to become a Pokemon Master Trainer.

1. Collect Poke Balls
2. Spoon Races
3. Gotta Catch Em’ All Game
4. Decorate a Poke Ball Cookie
5. Pokemon piñata

Pokemon Belts

The Pokemon party belts are made with black fabric from a bed sheet that you can find at a thrift store or cheap department store. Cut the black fabric into strips, no sewing involved, and tie them around the kids waits.

The balls didn’t hook on very well when the kids ran but I used paper clips and black electrical tape as the black part of the poke ball so with the paper clip I bent it so it could be hooked over the belt.

COLLECT POKE BALLS

Make the Poke Balls with plastic golf balls from Walmart (cheaper than pingpong balls).

• Paint one side red using craft paint
• Use black electrical tape for the middle ring around the ball.
• Tape a paperclip down with the electrical tape making a hook for the balls to stay clipped on the belt (velcro costs a bunch and it doesn’t work as well).

Another money saving tip: Use the belts as part of the pokemon party favors! I am all about having the party favors be used as part of the party activities or decor to get double the use just like I did in this Star Wars party with the light sabors and robes.

Pokemon Party Spoon Races

Practice balancing with this poke ball spoon racing. Just a fun way to use the poke balls and they can all run at the same time. This was one of the best parts of the pokémon party.

Gotta Catch em’ All Game:

Let me explain how the “Gotta Catch Em’ All” game works. Each kiddo is given a Pokedex just like the main character on the show has. The kids run around and find the different Pokemon. They use their poke ball to “capture” some of their favorite pokemon, then cross it out on the Pokedex.

Use a large area to do this game. The kids will have lots of areas to hurt for each Pokemon and it will take up a lot of time.

How to Make a Pokedex

Use a sheet of red cardstock and fold it in half. Glue the Pokemon images inside. Decorate the front with some electrical tape and a image of a poke ball.

Another tip: get your birthday kid involved in the crafting of the party. Less work for you and gets them excited and involved with the party planning. I find it is more fun for them to come up with ideas and plan their own party then it is to surprise them at their party.

Decorate a Poke Ball Cookie

This is a super simple activity and fun for your party guests! Sit down with pokemon drinks and decorate a Poke Ball cookie. You can purchase 12 sugar cookies from Walmart for $2 or just make them yourself.

Kids can decorate with red and white frosting. Parents can help with the black line. Use a white sixlet for the center. To get the Pokeball cookie decorating sign click HERE.

Pokemon Piñata

You can buy a pokemon piñata or use my instructions to make your own for super cheap.

Using black electrical tape and orange and yellow tissue paper, you can transform this ordinary $4 unicorn piñata to Rapidash Pokemon! Total cost for piñata including candy was $8!

Pokemon Party Favors

At the end, award the Pokemon masters with a a certificate, Pokeball and a Pokemon card. The kids can all cheer for each other and it’s fun if you announce their names. To get the certificate I made click HERE.
