Possibly the most memorable face to ever enter Dragons' Den and one of the most successful companies to date is Reggae Reggae sauce's Levi Roots.

Roots was a memorable character- with a great business idea and musical pitch but what happened to the business?

What happened to Reggae Reggae sauce on Dragons' Den?

In 2007, Roots made a memorable start to his pitch as he sang about his passionate business with his guitar.

The Reggae Reggae Sauce story began in Jamaica in the early 70s as his Grandmother taught him the art of cooking.

Roots originally set into the Den looking for an investment of £50,000 for his homemade Caribbean cooking sauce in exchange for 20% equity in the company.

At first, the pitch got off to a rocky start after a disastrous miscalculation, however, not all hope was lost for the musician.

Whilst some Dragons didn't believe that Reggae Reggae sauce had a future, Wokingham -born Jones definitely saw potential in the company and proceeded to make an offer.

Jones said: "I like impossible challenges and I've been sitting here for 10 minutes and I can't believe that for the first time ever I've actually started to sweat.

"I don't know whether it's the sauce I've just taken or actually it's whether what I'm about to say."

Jones offered Roots £25,000 for 20% equity which was half of the money that Roots originally asked for but for same ownership percentage.

Entrepreneur, Richard Farleigh asked for 20% equity to entitle Roots to the full amount of money, £50,000.

Receiving the full amount of requested money meant that he would be giving away 40% of his company rather than the initial 20%.

Roots said: "That deal it's not ideal for me but at the same time I think this is going to be fantastic for us and for the sauce so I would accept gladly."

After the show, major supermarket Sainsbury's agreed on an exclusive distribution deal and within six weeks the sauce was on shelves with incredible demand.

The sauce is now stocked by all of the major retailers and the brand has since been extended across a range of other products, and according to Sainsbury’s, it even outsells Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

In 2010, Levi opened his first restaurant in London but it closed in 2012.

Levi then opened his first franchise restaurant in December 2015 at Westfield Stratford City but sadly it closed in 2019.

What is Reggae Reggae sauce's net worth?

Reggae Reggae Sauce has a net worth of approximately $45 million.

This is the equivalent of over £32.7 million.

The company has worked and created products with companies including Subway, Domino’s Pizza and Birds Eye.

Is Peter Jones still involved in Reggae Reggae Sauce?

Jones remains a shareholder and advocate for the brand.

He claims that 'it’s one of my most successful investments from the show'.

According to Peter Jones' official website, he is still an active partner in the multi-million-pound business.

Peter Jones has an estimated net worth of £500million so it is no surprise that he has helped build the Reggae Reggae sauce's fortune.
