I loved the local businesses, restaurants, and beaches! My family always goes to Oak Island for summer vacations. I wish there were more water activities - like sailing.

Great place to live, with every thing you need with you on the island from clothing stores, restaurants, mechanic shops, hardware stores and of course the beach! There's really no reason to leave the island once you're all moved in.

Oak Island has SAND.. That's it
If you are Elderly, like laying on the beach, Golfing, getting drunk & thrift shopping Oak Island is THE place to go! If you have children, your options are limited to the beach and ice cream,
Let me surmmerize, your kids will be bored to tears. I am not kidding, after years of stressing to OKI the need for activities for kids ages 1-18 still nothing! Go to Wilmington or Myrtle Beach. Also, Property prices have skyrocketed (and so have the taxes) those who were born here (like me) understand. Jobs are scarce, unless you want to sell real estate, work for a doctors office or at Walmart. The funeral business should be hopping considering everyone here is over 65. Schools are horrible & over a 30 minute drive away. Traffic is miserable because of all the stupid golf carts. There is next to NO diversity, only white elderly Republicans. So if you come to Oak Island PACK YOUR PATIENTS and stock up on alcohol, your kids are going to drive you crazy.
