Non-Qualified Accounts (2024)

Non-qualified accounts are accounts where you can invest as much or as little as you want in any given year, and you can withdraw at any time. Money invested into a non-qualified account is money that has already been received through income sources and income tax has been paid. The type of investments that can be held in non-qualified accounts are annuities, mutual funds, equities, etc. If non-qualified accounts are invested in annuities, the growth on those accounts would grow on a tax deferred basis and the earnings are taxable at the time of withdrawal.
