No streetlights, crimes flourish on dark & dangerous Sohna Road | Gurgaon News - Times of India (2024)

SOHNA: The road connecting Sohna Road from the side of Sispal Vihar via Rosewood City to Golf Course Extension Road has become crime-prone zone with several unfortunate incidents taking place in the past. The road becomes more dangerous during the night since there are no streetlights in the entire stretch. This has prompted the residents demand immediate action from the district administration and the police department.

This whole stretch needs urgent attention as anti-social elements loiter on the road even during the day.
"Two days back, three miscreants in a luxury car tried to molest a teenage girl when she got down from her school bus in a lonely spot. Fortunately, they could not do anything as two speeding cars appeared on the spot, forcing them to flee. Meanwhile, the girl was in shock and her mother brought her to our clinic," said TRD Patro, a doctor from South City-II.
There is no streetlight on the entire stretch of the road. On the both sides, brisk construction activities of different builders are going on. Anti-social elements and labourers working in these construction sites find it very easy to commit crimes in the cover of darkness and then vanish on bushy areas and behind the mound of soil.

"We are getting reports of crime being committed every week. Last week, a gold chain of a woman was snatched and the assailants on a bike vanished towards the side of Golf Course Extension Road. As the road is connected to Faridabad, for the miscreants it is very easy to flee from that side. The Golf Course Extension Road is a very deserted," said Rajan Bhandari, joint secretary, D Block, Rosewood City RWA.
Not only crime, the road is also very accident-prone. When the TOI reporter was visiting the spot, a boy from Rosewood City was hurt when his car was hit by another speeding vehicle. He was rushed to a private hospital.

An unauthorized taxi stand, food stalls, rag-pickers have occupied both sides of the road and made their way to earn their livelihood. "Most of the people in the area are floating population; hence it makes the area more crime-prone. The area needs constant patrolling of police. We never see any police patrolling party here," said Rachna Sood, a senior citizen.
"There is no speed-breaker and red light anywhere on the road. There are several crossing as well. The traffic police never bother to put up red light on these crossings. Several accidents have taken place over the years due to the absence of red lights," said S Sekhar, an office-bearer of Rosewood City RWA.
When TOI pointed out about the sorry state affairs of the area, Vimal Yadav, mayor, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, said, "I will see on Monday whether this road falls under MCG or not and I promise in my best of abilities to installs light on that stretch of the road."
