New Immigration and Citizenship Fees in Spain for 2022 (1)

On December the 22nd, the General State Budget for the year 2022 was approved. Among others, this means the update and increase of the fees required for the different immigration and nationality procedures in Spain.

In this article you will find the new amounts and all the updated fees for this year 2022 detailed for each procedure so that you know how much you will have to pay exactly from now on.

New fees in 2022 for authorizations to reside in Spain

  • Initial temporary residence authorization: 10,94 €.
  • Renewal of the temporary residence authorization: 16,40 €
  • Temporary residence permit from a modification of a residence permit for exceptional circ*mstances: 16.40 €
  • Independent residency of regrouped family members: 16,40 €
  • Authorization of temporary residency for exceptional circ*mstances: 38,28 €
  • Long-term residency (permanent residency): 21,87 €
  • EU long-term residence: 21,87 €
  • Residence and work permits due to exceptional circ*mstances: 10,94 €

Extension of stay authorizations

  • Short-term stay extension: 17,49 €
  • Extension of short-term stay with visa: 32,17 €
  • Extension of the authorization of stay for study purposes, student mobility, non-working internship, or volunteer services (main holder and her family members): 17,49 €

Initial work permit authorizations

  • As an employee with a residence authorization (salary less than 2 times the S.M.I.*): 203.84 €
  • As an employee doing research tasks (salary less than 2 times the S.M.I.): 203.84 €
  • As a highly-qualified employee holding an EU-Blue Card (salary less than 2 times the S.M.I.): 203.84 €
  • As a cross-border worker (salary less than 2 times S.M.I.): 203.84 €
  • Self-employed work authorizations: 203.84 €
  • For employed persons with a residence authorization (salary equal to or higher than 2 times S.M.I.): 407.71 €
  • As an employee doing research tasks (salary equal to or higher than 2 times S.M.I.): 407.71 €
  • As a highly qualified professional holding an EU-Blue Card (salary equal to or higher than 2 times S.M.I.): 407.71 €
  • As a cross-border employee (salary equal to or higher than 2 times S.M.I.): 407.71 €
  • Initial work authorization in the framework of transnational provision of services (remuneration less than 2 times S.M.I.): 203.84 €
  • Initial authorization to work within the framework of transnational services (remuneration equal to or higher than 2 times S.M.I.): 203.84 €
  • Initial authorizations to work to holders of stay authorization for studies, non-labor internship or voluntary services: 122,30 €
  • Seasonal or campaign authorization (initial authorization to work as an employee for a fixed term): 10.94 €
  • Authorization for temporary work or service: 10,94 €
  • Authorization for training or professional internships: 10,94 €

*The SMI is the minimum legal salary in Spain

Renewals, modifications and extensions of work authorizations

  • Renewal or modification of a work authorization processed in a temporary residence and work authorization procedure: 81.54 €
  • Work authorization for modification of a residence permit due to exceptional circ*mstances: 81.54 €
  • Extension of work authorization for cross-border workers: 81.54 €
  • Extension of authorization to work as an employee for a fixed term: 16,40 €
  • Extension of work authorization in the framework of transnational provision of services (remuneration less than 2 times S.M.I.): 203.84 €
  • Extension of work authorization in the framework of transnational services (remuneration equal or superior to 2 times S.M.I.): 203,84 €
  • Extensions of authorization to work to holders of authorization of stay for studies, non-labor internship or voluntary services: 40,75 €

Foreigner identity card and EU registry certificates

  • TIE documenting the first granting of the authorization for temporary residency, stay, or for cross-border workers: 16,08 €
  • TIE documenting the renewal of a temporary residency authorization, stay status extensions, or authorization for cross-border workers: 19,30 €
  • TIE documenting the residence and work authorization due to exceptional circ*mstances: 16,08 €
  • TIE documenting a long-term residency or long-term EU residence authorization: 21,87 €
  • Registration certificate for EU residents or Residency card for the family member of a citizen of the European Union: 12 €

Identity documents, diplomas and travel documents for undocumented individualds and other documents

  • Authorization for undocumented registration: 21,87
  • Registration certificate (“cédula de inscripción”): 3,27 €
  • Return authorization: 10,72 €
  • Exceptional authorization of entry or stay: 17,49 €
  • Allocation of a Foreigner’s Identity Number (NIE) at the request of the interested individual: 9,84 €
  • Certificates or reports issued at the request of the interested party: 7,31 €
  • Authorization to issue a letter of invitation: 75,05 €
  • Invitation letter: 6,54 €
  • Certification and breakdown for each document related to the Letter of Invitation: €1.09

New fee for Spanish nationality in 2022

One more year, the required fee to apply for Spanish citizenship by residence is going up again.

During 2022 it will be 104,05€.

In addition, to complete the process you will have to take into account the following two updated fees:

  • Issuance of the DNI (Spanish ID card): 12€
  • Spanish passport issuance: 30€
