Neopets Not Shutting Down

UPDATE, June 14th, 11:30 AM NST: TNT has issued a statement about the closure of JumpStart in today's New Features update:

Hello Neopians! We wanted to take a moment to address some of the rumours that have been swirling around. As many of you know, Jumpstart recently announced that it will be closing its doors beginning on June 30th, 2023. While we are devastated to see all of our friends at Jumpstart go, we want to assure you that Neopets will live on. The Neopets Team is still going strong–in fact, we are more committed than ever to showing the vibrant Neopian community the care and attention it deserves. With the Altador Cup in full swing and San Diego Comic-Con on the horizon, we have a whole host of exciting announcements coming very soon, so stay tuned and play on, Neopians!

Late yesterday, a notice was posted on JumpStart's main website (JumpStart.com) announcing the closure of all their games at the end of the month on June 30th.

This follows an announcement from last week that School of Dragons was shutting down, one of JumpStart's games, but we're sad to see that the closures have expanded.

Luckily, Neopets is not included in those shut downs, and the message was updated this morning to say:

Thank you for playing JumpStart Games various products over the years. Effective immediately, we will be discontinuing support for our current Educational JumpStart and Math Blaster games - this does NOT include Neopets branded games, and there will be no further game downloads or content or functionality updates. On June 30, 2023, our servers will be shut down completely. Game progress and in-game items will not be saved, and any user data will be unavailable after that date.

It has been over 25 years since JumpStart/Math Blaster first launched and we appreciate the support and enthusiasm that we have received from all our users worldwide over the years.

So, what's going on?
No official statement has been issued or provided by JumpStart, but from what we've been able to uncover, the JumpStart brand is being discontinued and the corporate entity is being shuttered. Instead, Neopets development is being shifted to Fluffy Dog Studios, a Canadian-based development studio that was formerly referred to in the past as "JumpStart Vancouver", is still owned by NetDragon, and also developed the Island Builders mobile app.

Long story short, NetDragon and JumpStart are having a corporate restructuring, and Neopets is simply being shifted from one NetDragon-owned entity to another.

We don't yet anticipate any other changes, and there's been no indication that Neopets.com is in danger of closing in the near future.
