AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas is known for its indulgent foods, so it may come as no surprise that a number of Texas citiesfound their way into a new ranking of fattest U.S. cities.
It is well documented that obesity is a serious problem in the U.S. According to the OECD, more than one in two adults and nearly one in six children are overweight or obese. A recent study released by WalletHub ranked the top 100 fattest U.S. cities and put the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area at the top spot.
Here is the ranking of the fattest Texas cities according to the new WalletHub study:
- McAllen-Edinburg-Mission (#1)
- San Antonio-New Braunfels (#19)
- Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington (#28)
- El Paso (#29)
- Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land (#31)
- Austin-Round Rock (#56)
The study compared the 100 most populous metro areas in the country, grading each on a 100 point scale.McAllen-Edinburg-Mission scored 83.75, whereas Austin-Round Rock scored 69.45.
