Multi Bike Insurance: What It Is and How It Works (2024 Guide) (2024)

How Does Multi-Bike Insurance Work?

Insuring more than one motorcycle can quickly get tedious and expensive. With multi-bike insurance, you can add numerous bikes to a single insurance policy instead of having a separate policy for each.

Here’s how a typical multi-bike insurance policy would work:

  1. You get a quote from your preferred insurer for one bike, then add two others as “additional vehicles.” The process works the same way as insuring multiple cars on an auto policy.
  2. Your premium will likely reflect the cost of insuring the most expensive bike. You can add the other two bikes to the policy at a discounted rate.
  3. Your state-required liability insurance (bodily injury and property damage) will typically be the same for all three bikes on the policy.
  4. You’ll have the option to add coverage like comprehensive and collision insurance for each bike based on your needs.
  5. You may also be able to buy optional coverage like roadside assistance and accessory coverage for each bike.

For example, let’s say you have two higher-value motorcycles and one fixer-upper. You might choose to add comprehensive and collision insurance to the policies for the more valuable bikes and decline it for the one that’s worth less.

You can easily add or remove a bike from the policy anytime you need to. Most insurance companies allow you to insure up to four motorcycles on a multi-bike policy, but some allow for even more.

The Benefits of Multi-Bike Insurance

Here are the main benefits of multi-bike insurance:

  • Save money. Many insurers provide discounts for bundling policies together. Geico, for example, offers a 10% discount when you insure more than one motorcycle on the same policy. These discounts differ between insurers, so it’s good to shop around.
  • Save time. Getting a quote for multiple bikes at the same time is quicker than getting a quote for each individually. It’s also faster to pay one premium monthly and keep track of a single policy as opposed to two or three.
  • Increase convenience. A multi-bike policy allows you to pay for and manage your coverage for multiple bikes all at once. You can do it all in the same place without having to deal with different customer service lines, online portals or passwords.

Can I Insure Multiple Riders With a Multi-Bike Policy?

If multiple people in your household ride your motorcycles, you can also insure them on your multi-bike policy.

Motorcycle insurance doesn’t require you to include all licensed members of your household on the policy. If anyone else who lives with you rides any of your motorcycles regularly, though, you should add them to your insurance plan to make sure everyone is properly protected.

Adding other riders may raise your premiums, especially if the additional riders have had any accidents or violations within the last three years.

For example, a quote from Progressive for two motorcycles and one biker with a clean driving record came to $615 per year. When we added another biker with a single speeding violation, that same quote jumped to $700 per year.

Regardless of any rate increases, it’s important to include anyone who rides the motorcycle on your policy. Always be honest and upfront about accidents and violations. Most insurers will check all driving records before issuing the quote anyway, so save yourself time by reporting accurately from the start.

Multi-Bike Insurance Requirements and Restrictions

The only difference between a standard motorbike insurance policy and a multi-bike policy is that instead of insuring one motorcycle, you’re insuring two or more. Some insurers cap the number of bikes it will cover (usually four) under one policy, while other insurers who specialize in multi-bike insurance will insure as many motorcycles as you like.

Multi-bike insurance can cover all of the following types of bikes:

  • Sport bikes
  • Dirt bikes
  • Cruisers
  • Custom bikes
  • Vintage and antique bikes
  • Touring bikes
  • ATVs and UTVs
  • Scooters
  • Mopeds

If you have high-value vintage, antique or collectible motorcycles, you may want to find an insurer that specializes in these types of bikes. If you have more than four motorcycles, consider looking for a provider that regularly insures entire collections.
