In 2022, Real Madrid was ranked as the most valuable soccer team in the world, with a squad worth around 5.1 billion U.S. dollars. The team with the second highest valuation was FC Barcelona, trailing behind their Spanish rivals by only 100 million U.S. dollars. Two teams from the English Premier League were in third and fourth position, with the German soccer giants Bayern Munich sitting at fifth in the ranking.
Real Madrid's finances
Despite being one of the most valuable soccer clubs in the world, Real Madrid CF suffered a decline in operating revenue since the 2018/2019 season, although this was no doubt partially caused by the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In the 2020/21 season, Real Madrid earned the second highest revenue from television broadcasting rights within La Liga, with their rivals FC Barcelona outperforming them in this regard.
The “Big Five” soccer leagues
The “Big Five” leagues refer to the highest division of professional soccer in England, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. In the 2021/22 season, the English Premier League had the highest revenue from the biggest European soccer leagues. As of October 2021, English teams also dominated the ranking of Big Five soccer teams according to estimated squad transfer value, with seven out of the leading 20 clubs calling England home.
