Morocco has finally begun importing LNG via Spain, taking receipt via a reversal of the GME pipeline which once supplied both Morocco and Spain with Algerian gas.
Just eight months after Algeria cut off Morocco’s sole source of natural gas imports, Rabat has begun to import gas through Spain which should allow the country to restart shut-in gas-fired power generation capacity in time for summer electricity demand.
Morocco has for months been planning to import LNG through Spain via a reversal of the 11.5bcm/y Gaz-Maghreb Europe pipeline (GME) which previously supplied Algerian gas to Spain via Morocco (see map and MEES, 11 February). (CONTINUED - 677 WORDS)
