What is the time frame for unclaimed property in Missouri? ›

State law requires financial institutions, insurance companies, public agencies and businesses to turn over Unclaimed Property to the Missouri State Treasurer's office if they have had no contact with the owners for some statutorily defined period of time, generally five years.

Each year financial institutions, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations turn over millions of dollars in cash and the contents of safe deposit boxes to the Treasurer's Office.

Missouri law provides a procedure for removing a tenant's abandoned property without liability. Landlords who remove abandoned property without following the law can end up with a judgment against them for the value of the removed property.

According to MO State Statute 137.075 "Persons owning or holding tangible personal property on the 1st day of January shall be liable for taxes." Montana Dormancy Periods

Generally, most property types have a five-year dormancy period. Accounts are considered dormant if the owner of a property has not indicated any interest in the property or if no contact has been made by the owner for the allotted dormancy period for that property.

For more than two decades, NAUPA has established and approved a set of codes in a uniform format to make electronic reporting more consistent.
