Mexico Launches New Trusted Traveler Program

The program is currently available at Mexico City International Airport, Cancun International Airport and Los Cabos International Airport.

January 8, 2014

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently collaborated with Mexico’s National Institute of Migration to allow U.S. Citizens entry into Mexico’s new trusted traveler program, which expedites security screening into the country.

Viajero Confiable is a trusted traveler program that allows fast and safe entry into Mexico by allowing members to process themselves at automated kiosks located at designated airports. The program is open to Mexican citizens 18 years of age and up and U.S. citizens who are members of CBP’s Global Entry program.

“Viajero Confiable provides the opportunity for U.S. citizens to expedite their international travel into Mexico and marks an important example of ongoing and unprecedented cooperation between our two countries in security and economic competitiveness matters,” said Assistant Secretary, Office of International Affairs, Alan Bersin. “Working in tandem, Global Entry and Viajero Confiable will break down barriers to cross-border travel, create new opportunities to increase tourism between our countries, and build a business-friendly environment that strengthens our nations’ economic competitiveness.”

The program is currently available at Mexico City International Airport, Cancun International Airport and Los Cabos International Airport. The application fee costs about $100 U.S. dollars and the membership lasts five years.

“George Bush Intercontinental Airport offers service to nearly 30 destinations in Mexico, more than any other U.S. airport,” said Molly Waits, Director of Air Service Development for Houston Airports. “Whether for business or pleasure, Viajero Confiable will strengthen trade and travel between our two countries.”
