What is the difference between a 2 bank and 3 bank battery charger? ›

A double bank charger is designed for two 12 volt batteries (24 volt motor). And a triple bank charger will charge three 12 volt batteries (36-volt motor). Portable, On-Board or DC Chargers: Portable chargers are fully mobile, but they need to be connected – and removed – from the batteries for each charge.

A charger like a trickle or solar charger are the chargers we recommend for maintaining your battery. A heavy duty charger, fully automatic - either 15, 20 or 30 amp - is what we recommend to charge your battery fully.

For example, 100Ah rated at C20. Divide the 20 into the 100 gives you 5 amps. This tells us that the battery is designed to discharge 5 amps for 20 hours until is reaches 10.5 Volts (which is the international test benchmark for dead flat).

What should a battery charger read when charged? ›

You can get an approximate reading by measuring the voltage of the battery (if you have a voltmeter.) A voltage of 12.6 or 12.7 means fully charged. A voltage of 12.2 is quite low.

When batteries are fully charged, the CHARGING LED will be steady GREEN. Unplug the charger from the wall, then the battery receptacle.

A fully charged and healthy battery should read 12.6V. A slight drop around 12.5V should be okay, but better to check it within a few days since you don't want it to drop any further. A partially discharged battery that needs recharging would have a 12.1V to 12.4V level.

Since trickle chargers only emit between 1 and 3 amps, you can expect to wait days for a fully charged battery. For example, a 1-amp trickle charger will take 100 hours to charge a dead 100Ah battery completely. This is very inefficient as the primary function of trickle chargers is to keep your batteries topped off.

The largest % of on board battery chargers utilize a separate charger for each bank. Hence, you can use one, two, or three batteries on a 3 bank changer for most on board chargers with 0 issues. I think most people recommend hooking all of the leads up. So you would have 2 banks hooked up to one battery.
