In Grand Theft Auto 5 you run into missions that enable you to play the stock market. By investing properly you can increase your funds greatly. By doing this over and over again you can multiply the money until it never becomes an issue again.
Understanding the Stock Market
There are two stock markets in the game that work differently from each other.
- LCN Stock Market: Impacted only through your in-game actions
- BAWSAQ: Stocks are affected by the GTA community at large.
If you're investing in any BAWSAQ stock your returns can vary and it's best if you save the game frequently. In fact, when manipulating the stock market it's best to have a separate save just to make sure everything goes smoothly.
When playing the stock market with a mission it can take several real-world minutes for the stock price to level out and allow you to maximize your profits. The peaks and valleys of stocks usually occur between five and ten minutes of real-world time to transition over after the mission is complete.
Although resting and moving time forward can have an effect on this, so does turning off your game. Sometimes, though, artificially moving time forward can negatively impact the natural progression of the stocks, preventing their peaks. Instead, you should simply wait and watch things progress to the suggested peak instead of trying to push things forward, unless you're attempting to bring a particular stock up from a drop.
Playing the Stocks Before GTA V Ends
Although you will get the most out of the investments you make after the game is finished, there are a few missions in particular that you must engage in before it's over.
- The first of the Lester Assassination missions you must undertake, the Hotel Assassination mission, before the game will let you progress past a certain point. You should wait and do this mission only when the game forces you to as you will be able to maximize the cash you do have.
- A pair of missions for Michael called Legal Trouble and Meltdown which you must complete before you can finish the end of the game.
The Hotel Assassin
The first assassination mission that you get from Lester is the Hotel Assassination mission. In this mission, you can manipulate the stock prices of Betta Pharmaceuticals (BET) and Bilkington (BIL) on the BAWSAQ exchange.
- Invest in Betta Pharmaceuticals with all characters before the start of the mission.
- Wait till Betta Pharmaceuticals has increased its stock price by approximately 80%.
- Sell all stocks in Betta Pharmaceuticals and buy Bilkington.
- After stocks have returned to normal, sell all Bilkington stock when you think you can get the most out of it.
Legal Trouble and Meltdown
After you complete the mission Legal Trouble for Michael, the stocks of FlyUS are in as much of a mess as Molly. The stocks will stay the same until you complete Meltdown, after which they will return to their normal state.
It's best to simply do these missions one right after the other in order to minimize the turnaround time. FlyUS's rival is AirEmu, and although I've seen some oddities the formula remains the same.
- Invest in AirEmu before the start of the Legal Trouble mission.
- Wait until changes have taken full effect and sell all of your AirEmu stock to purchase FlyUS stock.
- Complete the mission Meltdown.
- Wait until maximum profit has been achieved and sell all FlyUS stock.
The Redwood Cigarette Assassination
In this Lester assassination mission, you get to sink into the shares of Redwood Cigarettes (RWC) by interfering with their jury tampering. This also affects the stock price of their rival Debonaire (DEB) on the LCN stock market.
- Before the mission starts invest in Debonaire Cigarettes (DEB).
- Wait till the market peaks at about 80% and then sell your Debonaire (DEB) stocks.
- Take all the money you gained from the Debonaire (DEB) sale and invest in Redwood (RWC) stocks.
- Wait till the market rebounds and sell all of your Redwood stock, approximately tripling your investment. This will take quite a bit of time, and you might consider sleeping several times to help it along, or do other things while you wait.
The Vice Assassination
This assassination mission has you deflating the shares of Façade (FAC) in order to pump up the stock price of Fruit (FRT) on the BAWSAQ marketplace.
- Before the mission starts, invest in Fruit (FRT).
- Wait till the stock market peaks at about 50% and then sell your Fruit (FRT) stocks.
- Take all the money you gained from the Fruit (FRT) sale and invest in Façade (FAC) stocks.
- Wait till the market rebounds. After things have leveled off you should make somewhere around a 30% return, but given that it is a BAWSAQ stock this can vary.
The Bus Assassination
The fourth Lester assassination mission has you manipulating the Vapid (VAP) stock on the BAWSAQ marketplace. This is different from the missions before as there is no rival stock to buy into. This means there is no pre-mission purchasing of stocks.
- After the mission is over, wait for the stock to fully deflate and purchase Vapid (VAP) stocks.
- Wait until the market rebounds to an approximately 100% return on your investment. As with all BAWSAQ stocks, the return rate may vary.
The Construction Assassination
On the last assassination mission, you impact a business that does not have a presence on the stock market but does have a competitor on the LCN stock market called GoldCoast (GCD)
- Before the mission, purchase GoldCoast (GCD) shares off the LCN.
- Wait for the peak at around 80% and then sell off all of your GoldCoast (GCD) stocks.
Tinkle Mission
One of the last ways to manipulate the stock market is through a random event. North on the highway where you find Michael’s shrink is a crashed car. If you take the driver to the airport before the timer runs out, he will pay you and advise you to invest in Tinkle on the BAWSAQ marketplace. If you invest in Tinkle at this point, you can generally get a return of about 30%.
After the Game Ends: Merryweather Investment
Immediately after the end of the game, you will find the stock of Merryweather has deflated after all the damage you've done to their reputation. This is especially true if you have chosen "The Third Way," as the company CEO will contact you about the fact that he’s been able to purchase back stocks at a cheaper price. Well, he’s not the only one who can do that! Invest your hard-earned cash into Merryweather and look for a gain somewhere in the 5 to 7 million range depending on how much you invested in the first place.

They should. Sometimes things do glitch out and you need to reload a save, but in general things act as they should. Just remember, sleeping five days in a row isn't going to always do what you want... even if it should. Sometimes it's better to wait the real world time playing the game, or test resetting the console. Always save before fiddling with this stuff just in case.

Iam at the mission: I fought the law. Started with Franlin at 3 miljon to do my trick. bought the airstrip when i reached 5 miljon, bought the helipad and the marine. Bought my Entity. And doing my trick again. After one our or so i reached 5 miljon. Bilkington was at its low peak so i bought its shares it went up for 50%. whoow.

Found out the way to make money with shares. No cheats no glitch. Verry borring but it works.
Step 1- You need a large amount of money at least 1 miljon or so on every character.
Step 2- Go to a savehouse.
Step 3- Do a quicksave on the cellfone.
Step 4- Go to LCN stockmarket and search for any shares which are at it its lowest peak and buy those.
step 5- go to sleep but DON'T SAVE.
step 6a- check you're shares and if they had fallen do load game and search for another lowpeakedshare.
step 6b. if the shares went up, even for 1 % do a quicksave and after the quicksave go to sleep DON'T SAVE. Most of the time they will go up again, than do quicksave again and after the quicksave sleep no save, repeat this till they has dropped. Max i've seen is 14% up but most of the time i've sold at 3% to 6%.
step 6c- If they have dropped,,, Load game and sell you're shares. After selling do a quicksave search for another lowpeaked share and repeat the whole story. Haha
Iam now at mission 35 out 69 (I fought the law) Before i started this trick Trevor had about 3 miljon and Franklin had 1.9 miljon. Michael had already 10 miljon after the 1st Lester mission, so i didn't do this trick with him.
After doing this trick for about 1 our realltime. Trevor has 5 miljon and Franky has 3 miljon. There isn't any other way to make this large amount of money at this time in the game.

Countryside robbery= 10.000,--
Altruistcamp = 100.000.--
Bring there; drunk driver 1 and 2 = 3000,--
Also bring Lacey (Resceu Paparazi) as the last one to the camp.
Do a lot of armored trucks. spawns every 3 gta days = about 1 our realltime.also every our realltime there is 1 briefcase in Bannings containing 7500,-- to be found in the water, between those 2 liftbtidges just south of that oilfield near Franky's home. Also you can find there crowbar, Stickybombs, pistol, shotgun, 2x granates, bodyarmor, lifepack and a smg.
Nowe do the armsrace all of them at least 2x
Don't spent you're money. Or just a bit. You would like to buy the Submarinebase so you can collect the nucke waste with him, before Franklin does his 1st Lestermission. Iff you do it like i told you,, you can put about 1.2 milj on those shares.

It looks like it may be... but it also may not given that you can make money on Merryweather. Patches and updates can change things here and there. I would say give them a try, but it's always important to save your game. The real money is in the Lester missions though, so if you maximize your gains from the Big Score, you'll make more then enough for all your needs.

A lot of money indeed Mike:), well ive started a new playthhrough even got a verry new account. Merrywether is verry low at the start of the game, so if ur able to urn a bit,,, put it on there.
Ive choosen to let Franklin do the bikethief in order to get those AnimalArk. shares. sell those and buy merrywether.
Then Play with michael and do daddy's littlegirl inventually. Before you do that mission, be shure Michael has about 100.000, Robbing stores, Taximissions Securityvans and that one briefcase between those 2 liftbridges in the water. Its in Banning. 7500 every 2 gta days, or every load game. Than if you have the money, do the epsilon missions. at the end of those missions you should have 2.1 million put it on merrywether. wait till you make proffit and buy alll you're upgrades for you're weapons. by taking just enough money. Merrywether will rise dramaticly over time

Omg I didn't say that iam a real gta freak. Played this game already for the 5th time. It's a really hard game for i lack some motoricks. Also the reason i can't play Multi. But somehowe i manage to play the storyline 100% over and over again. In about 1 month realtime iam going to buy ps4 and the next gen gta5. Really i hope they didn't change to much. Also i hope that the briefcases are still in the water if you delete the updates for a while.
Its really hard to make some money in this game without them. Possible though.
Still in the first edition there is one briefcase left. Its there in the water at the small oilfield between those 2 liftbridges. It wont be there every character swich. Save and load is one option, or just go there after every mission. It will give you 7500 every time. Also after every mission you'll find the armored truck at one of its spawnlocations. Gives you 3 to 7000.
So every mission will give you at least 10.000 if you're willing to take the time.

Before you do the Hotel assassin, you must do the Epsilon program with Michael. Let Trevor do the nuclear waste. And if you want to have more, just delete the updates go to one of the briefcases in the see and take as much as you want. I took 1milj for Franklin and milj for Micheal at the start of the game. Then i added the updates again. If you do so take note that leveling up your abbilitys like strength and lungcapacity wont work properly. But that will be good again after you put the updates again.

It's always important when you're manipulating the stock market that you save your game. Most of the time things go as they should, but sometimes they don't. GTA5 is far from a glitch free game and as written above, I've seen oddities happen with that particular manipulation even if it does usually work. Given that you did see a dramatic stock change, there is an opportunity to manipulate that and make money however.

The BAWSAQ stock market isn't just pulling data from the internet, it exists on the GTA5 servers. This message means that you're not connected to the internet, or at least there's an issue with you reaching their servers.

It's possible you're doing nothing wrong. First though, re-read the 'Understanding the Stock Market' section above for my full advice, but the problem might just be BAWSAQ itself. Unlike LCN, that market is 'live' and isn't as predictable. Just get off the phone/internet while you wait and check it after several minutes to see if it shifted, and if it's not going as expected restart the save.

Yes, that's the way it should work... but the game is far from perfect. I've seen oddities in that mission that didn't occur the next time I did it. FlyUS is the only one that should drop like a stone right after Legal Trouble.

For Molly Shultz's cognoscenti, if you don't get out and back it up first after she ditches it, on my game, it dissapeared after. So back it up, also, you could take devon Weston's yellow Carbonizzare. Its only there for legal trouble, so it is quote obvious it would be his. For the Z-Type, when you have the Z-Type in your hands(MWAHAHAHA), you take it to trevors Vespucci beach house, do NOT just park it in the driveway, park it between the pile of sh*t with a blue tarp and beside the while, do not let the front/rear bumper exit the garage. Then proceed to eliminate yourself. As soon as you spawn at the hospital. This is important, Do....NOT.....drive ANY vehicle!!!! Call a taxi and RUSH it there ASAP. The Z-Type should be there if you did it right, the first time I did it, it was the 2nd time. The 2nd time I played through, it was on the 1st try. You can try this on the JB700, but it did not work for me, but feel free to try it.

I got the Entity, and cheetah, by simply driving them to
Los Santos Customs, and adding window tint or some upgrade or modification. Completed the mission, and they where in the impound.
I tried getting the JB700 free a few times, doesn't work, but it worked for the Z-Type. So I approx. saved $14,000,000 on cars,

Yeah its pretty awesome. You do know of the garage glitch right? Its really easy. Go to a house garage. Just before your character gets out and touches the ground. Switch characters! And then re switch back. And boom, 2 cars, the same, even the mods transfer over! I can duplicate as many cars as i want! You only need one! Don't need to buy a whole bunch of cars.

FYI, I found a new duplication glitch! Idk if it will work for everybody or if its just me. No matter what car I put in my house garage(Michael, Franklin, Trevor), it duplicates and spawns in the impound, and the original(maybe duplicate)is in the garage! Try it out!
I also used the original getting out of car and switching characters glitch. You only need one of any car. Its great! You can have 10 Z-Types! if you wanted.

Well all the businesses. A cargobob, a Luxor, tank, a Monroe, stinger, i guess a frog get or maverick too. I also got devon Weston's Vacca, and a merryweather Mesa. So I am pretty set. Then when everything is set. I will save the game. And i will come on and mod random cars for rampaging. The roosevelt is the best so far, it already comes stock 100% armour, you can mod it to 200%. Making it the toughest car in the game! But yet if you hit a stop sign, sometimes the lights will get busted, even though they have mesh grates over them. The vestra is a very fast little plane, takes off in a very short distance, almost like the Lazer. The alpha is fun to mod, all black, get a black suit. And then go around assassinating people. I think that is one of the most fun parts of GTA, is pretending, lol. I have yet to do the tinkle mission.

I probably didn't make as much because I didn't wait for some stocks to rise to their peak. In 1 or 2 missions. And I missed possibly a few opportunity a during the campaign(forgot again), but 300 mill is more than enough for me. I can buy the country club, every business. I already got the Z-Type, Cheetah, Entity, Adder, F620, free during the campaign. The rest of the cars I will buy, and properties. Will hardly make a dent in my cash! I thought I was rolling high when I finished the game the 2nd time

I finished the game(again), using your heist guide, and stock market guide. Norm Richards was dropped off in the Jewel heist, wasn't a big deal. Anyway, I finished, with franklin, approximately, 235 million, Michael, 335 million, and Trevor, 375 Million. Thanks so much bro! Your awesome.

I so far am on the 3rd assassination. On the redwood one i got about $10 mill extra per character. I have yet to do the iFruit one. I have a previous save. So if I didn't do it right. I can go back in time!

Yeah... the game gives you a general hint about things, but once you break it down you can really see just how much earning potential there is.

Thanks for the guide I had no idea that these things were connected, I love that they did it though, it definitely adds more realism into the game.
It also serves as a kind of money cheat I guess once you know them.
