"One in a Billion!" That's the mantra for this year's Pan-Mass Challenge, as donations are expected to exceed one billion dollars since PMC's inception in 1980. Team kicked off the fundraising year at the Winter Cycle at Fenway Park, participating in cycling sessions led by Boston-area instructors. 2024 is our third year as co-sponsor for the nation's largest athletic fundraiser, where every rider-raised dollar is donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. "Cancer affects nearly everyone in one way or another, directly or indirectly, and this cause is an integral part of M&T's mission to support our customers and local communities. Fulfilling that mission in partnership with the largest, most successful athletic fundraiser in the country is a unique opportunity – and one that we're committed to building on." - Grace L., Regional President of Eastern, MA #PMC2024

As part of our longstanding tradition of offering honest and insightful commentary about the state of our company and the economic conditions impacting our industry and communities, we’re pleased to share our annual letter to shareholders from our Chairman and CEO, René Jones. This year's letter addresses a variety of topics, including the importance of earning trust and fostering public confidence to strengthen not only the banking sector, but businesses across industries, and thriving communities. The letter also provides a candid assessment of M&T Bank’s 2023 financial performance, including how the strength of our business—our prudent lending practices, vigilant risk assessment, and deep customer relationships—helped us navigate a tumultuous 2023.“[W]e take as part of our charge to build and maintain public trust in what we do—through prudent lending and support for civic institutions. We understand—as does the public—that the erosion of trust is problematic not just for banks but for those who buy or renovate homes, purchase new cars, convert ideas into profitable businesses, and have the time and means to volunteer at the great range of local groups that are marks of healthy community life. For us, trust is not a given—it’s a process, one we work hard to instill every day.” — M&T Bank Chairman and CEO René JonesArtwork on the cover of this year’s message to shareholders by Boston-based artist, Silvia López Chavez.

The mission of Women Giving Back is to support women and children in crisis on a first step to stability by providing quality clothing at no cost. The non-profit began in 2007, when the three founders, Terri Stagi, Fiona Hughes, and Leslie Strittmatter, learned just how many barriers women in shelters were facing because they lacked appropriate clothing. They took action, and today, they have grown into an organization that serves more than 24,000 women and children in need every year. They amassed nearly 5,000 dedicated volunteers and 1,300 referral partners throughout the Greater Washington Metro area. Over the past 16 years, Women Giving Back’s programs have grown to meet the expanding and evolving needs of the community it serves.“My proudest moment at Women Giving Back is how we transformed our services during the pandemic to meet the needs of the community. We pivoted and created a food pantry because many of the families we service found themselves out of work. For 16 weeks, we distributed 150,000 pounds of food.” -- Nicole Morris, CEOThe M&T Charitable Foundation strives to strengthen our communities by supporting various civic, cultural, health, and human service organizations through grants, employee volunteerism, and in-kind services.
