Low- and middle-income countries, by region and subregion (2024)

The Adding It Up 2019 project produced estimates for 132 countries classified by the World Bank as being low- or middle-income countries (LMICs) on the basis of their having a 2018 per capita GNI of $US12,375 or less. The Adding It Up analysis excluded the following LMICs because they did not have United Nations (UN) population or birth data: American Samoa, Dominica, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Tuvalu. In addition, per UN World Population Prospects classifications, Kosovo was combined with Serbia for all calculations.
