Sightly more than half of accountants are happy with their compensation, according to a survey conducted by LinkedIn Market Research and reported by goingconcern.
In an online poll, 32,000 professionals were asked if they felt well compensated for their work. Accountants came in 13th out of the top 15 professions where employees felt well compensated for their work—as 52 percent of them were satisfied. They came out ahead of salespeople (50 percent) and quality assurance pros (49 percent), but behind product managers (62 percent), engineers (60 percent), real estate professionals (59 percent), program and project managers (58 percent, and consultants (57 percent). On the low end of satisfaction with pay were educators (39 percent), entrepreneurs (41 percent), and social service workers (43 percent).
Overall, almost half of American workers, 49 percent, felt well-compensated for their work. At 52 percent, accountants felt slightly better about their pay than their fellow citizens.
This survey is, by nature, unscientific and probably does not reflect the opinions of a statistically viable sampling of CPAs. As pointed out in one of the comments, notably missing from this survey are industries and professions such as health care, government and blue-collar trades. It is also worthy to note that this survey was only available to those on LinkedIn.
