Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) was the largest public pension fund worldwide as of December 2022. The fund, which was established in 2006 had assets under management worth 1.32 trillion U.S. dollars. South Korea's National Pension Service (NPS) ranked second with assets under management amounting to 690 billion U.S. dollars. Since 2006, the size of the public pension industry has been growing and is expected to reach 36 trillion U.S. dollars in assets under management until 2030.
