NEW DELHI: Be warned, if you want to buy a new house in Dwarka and Rohini. In response to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Delhi police say Dwarka is the capitals most unsafe area and the congested Jama Masjid neighbourhood is its safest.
Records available to this paper show that the five most crime-infested police areas are in the south-western and outer districts. The central and northern districts, which include old Delhi, are the safest. Sociologists say this is because these areas often have a stronger sense of community.
Dwarka heads the list of five police stations with the highest rates of crime. It is followed by Rohini, Malviya Nagar, Najafgarh and Sultanpuri . The list consists of a comparison of all police stations and the number of FIRs filed in them till October.
The only drawback of this league table is that Jamia Nagar police station, which was started a year ago, is being compared with Sarojini Nagar, Delhis oldest police station
The 10 police stations with the lowest crime rates are: Jama Masjid, Gulabi Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Bara Hindu Rao, Maurice Nagar, Chandni Mahal, Jaffar Pur Kalan, Hauz Quazi, Lahori Gate and Farsh Bazar. Delhi has 148 police stations in 11 police districts. But 133 existed when the RTI was filed. The data excludes the 12 new police stations.
