International Pharmacist Applications (2024)

International pharmacists are those individuals who currently live in the United States and have received an undergraduate degree in and their pharmacy license from a recognized school of pharmacy outside of the U.S., the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

International pharmacists may obtain a license to practice pharmacy in the U.S. through one of two ways:

1. Taking the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination® (FPGEC) and completing the requirements of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
2. Successfully completing a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at a school or college of pharmacy in the U.S.

All international pharmacists will be placed into the first year regardless of previous experience. No financial aid is available for international pharmacists. In addition, the demand for pharmacists varies by geographical location. Consequently, the School of Pharmacy cannot guarantee that international graduates will find employment after graduation in the U.S.

All applicants are required to attend an accredited college or university in the U.S. for at least one semester (12 credits). The School recommends that applicants become familiar with the rules and regulations of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Additionally, the School recommends that applicants start the admissions process at least one year before the application deadline and be prepared to pay all expenses.

International Pharmacists do not apply via PharmCAS. To apply to the School of Pharmacy as an international pharmacist, complete these steps by April 3, 2024:

1. SubmitanInternational Pharmacist Application online.

Upload the following documents to the online application above:

• Personal statement or letter of intent
• Updated resume/CV
• A copy of your pharmacy license

2. Submitthe materials below directly to:

• A statement of financial security that asserts that you will be able to coveraverage yearly expenses for the PharmD program.
• Official copies of all transcripts from your pharmacy school and college-level education. Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approvedtranscript evaluation service.
• Check or money order for $160. The check or money order should be made payable to the University of Maryland.

3. Other items to submit:

• The PCAT exam is recommended. Submit results of the PCAT using ID code 160: U of MD — Intrl Pharmacist.
• TOEFLis recommended, not required. However, the School of Pharmacy recommends international applicants submit their results to PharmCAS if they have previously taken the exam. The TOEFL code for the PharmD program is Institution Code 5848, Department 47.
• A letter of recommendation from a professional reference (work or education) topatrice.sharp@rx.umaryland.edu.
• Complete the onlineSupplemental Application. On the application, enter the code INTLPHARM as your PharmCAS Identification Number, and enter the date you complete the application as the PharmCAS Application Completion Date.

All applicants considered for admissions will be invited for aninterview.
