Blogging has taken the world by storm and many people have found enjoyment in writing a blog However, it requires a lot of work, and so making some money from your efforts definitely allows you to be able to put more time and energy into a blog. To make money though, a key factor is to increase blog traffic.

Today I wanted to write a post for those who have been wondering if they should try their hand at blogging, or for those who maybe have started, but are not sure how to get traffic to your blog. For more information on how to get your blog set up when you start, read How to Start Blogging.
I find it a little weird to talk about making money as a blogger. Not everyone talks about how they make money from their choice of work. However, I remember how hard I struggled to make a blog work for years, while desperately wanting to work from home, so if this post could help even ONE person on their journey to making money while being able to stay home with their kids (or maybe you don’t have kids and just want to work in your pajamas! 🙂 ) then it is worth it for me.
I am 6 months into my blogging journey, and I’m excited to say that within 3 months of blogging I was able to increase blog traffic to the point that I could start making money from it. You may be a new blogger and wondering how to get visitors to your blog. Today I want to share with you what worked for me, so that maybe the same formula can work for you.
I DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO BOOST BLOG TRAFFIC
But first – a little background. One of the biggest things you need to know about me is that over the past 7 or so years I tried blogging at least 3 times before this blog. I made absolutely NOTHING from it. I failed every single time.
As a stay at home mom who homeschools my children, I dreamed of working from home. We live on a tight budget, and I knew if I could bring in some extra income, it would really help.
However, it seemed that every time I tried, it didn’t work out. I was going about it all wrong. I didn’t really seem to know the secret to drive traffic to your website.
I decided to try this whole “blog” thing one more time. I knew others who were successful, and I thought maybe if I could figure out the secret to boost blog traffic this time around, I could have different results.

That is when I stumbled on Carly Campbell’s “Pinteresting Strategies” ebook for bloggers.
I’m telling you, this book has changed my life. This woman is an expert of how to use Pinterest.
First, it had never occurred to me that I needed to utilize Pinterest to drive traffic to my blog. I just always had this mentality that “if you build it, they will come.”
That may have worked for Noah and the ark. It doesn’t really work the same way for a blog.
For me, Pinterest was a place where I pinned pictures of rainbow pasta that I planned to make for my kids so they would think I was mother of the year.
Side note – I never made the rainbow colored pasta in that beautiful Pinterest pin. You know what is involved in dyeing all those noodles different colors? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Or at least the patience. No patience for that over here.
Rainbow pasta aside, there actually was a way Pinterest could help me out as a blogger.
The Pinteresting Strategies ebook not only was affordable, other people swore by it. They shared how following Carly’s formula for manually pinning images for their blog posts was a successful way to drive traffic to your website.
I definitely didn’t want to invest too much money into a blog because I was afraid it would end up just like the rest of my blogs. However, I never invested ANY money into my other blogs, and that’s another reason they didn’t go anywhere.
I am not suggesting you invest an insane amount of money into a new venture. However, sometimes you need to invest at least something into a business to learn how to do things properly.
After I read Carly’s book and implemented her strategy, I gradually saw my numbers increase. At first I couldn’t believe it. There were people out there who were actually reading what I wrote! I had actually found a way to increase blog traffic.
I needed 25,000 visitors in 30 consecutive days to start making money with an ad company on my site. Ads are just one of the ways you can make money blogging, but are definitely a great place to start when you are new to the blogging world.
After 3 months I was able to apply to the ad company. By month four I was all set up and starting to make money.
My dream of working from home had started.
I’m telling you, as someone who spent years failing in the blogging world, this book was worth it’s weight in gold to me. I am as frugal as they come. For me to even THINK about buying this book was a big deal. But after reading how others had success with this ebook, I just knew I had to take a chance.
I share this with you because if you want to blog, and you are wondering how to get traffic to your blog this ebook is an excellent place to start. Don’t do what I did for the first three blogs and try to do it all on your own. Learn from some of the experts in the field. I promise you, when it comes to pinning, Carly is an expert.

Of course, let’s be clear here. To increase blog traffic you need to be sure you apply ALL of Carly’s tips in this book. There is so much information online for bloggers, and sometimes we get really excited to read a new ebook or course on blogging, but after we read it we put it aside and forget to implement the secrets we just learned. Actually, I wouldn’t say we necessarily forget, but I think life gets in the way. We get busy.
They say most bloggers fail because they give up too soon. Boy, do I wish I had read THAT line BEFORE I quit all my other blogs!
If you want to make money from home as a blogger, I recommend 2 things. First, don’t give up too soon!! Keep going when it gets hard. There will be peaks and valleys and it is all worth it. and Second, buy Carly’s book, Pinteresting Strategies to get you started in the right direction! It is a tool that is beneficial to any blogger who wants to use Pinterest as a way to get traffic to your blog.
